but I sang in it, so I think that should count. I sang the alto/mezzo-soprano solos, and I sang in the choir.

I saw the Oregon Symphony and Portland Symphonic Choir perform this under the wonderful direction of Carlos Kalmar and I’m so glad I did. I procrastinated going until the last evening of the series and got there to find a line of others who had done the same thing, and it was sold out. Very fortunately I was able to purchase the ticket of someone who had to cancel and was seated in the twelfth row, close to center. They even honored my student discount. It worked out beautifully! Requiem was followed by John Adams’s “On the Transmigration of Souls”, a dark but lovely tribute to the victims of 9/11. That piece was seamlessly followed by Ave verum corpus. A memorable evening! (Sometimes it pays to procrastinate!)
