the franz josef is great because it’s close to sea level, and and actually at fairly warm latittudes. I did the full day hike, and it was just incredible. we went down through narrow crevices, even some tunnels where we had to crawl a bit. the ice is such an incredible, pure blue. one of the most awesome things ever. 3 years ago
New Zealand.. fastest moving glacier in the world.. constantly changing and I did a full day hike on it.
WELL worth it despite falling thru ice into thigh deep freezing cold water! (very funny actually)
Only wish I could have afforded the helihike ( helicopter ride to and from the glacier )
Very reasonable price tho.. shame I was broke! 4 years ago
