How I did it: 1) practised every day

2) Got a few people to help me with the ones that were hard

3) Actually made an effort to play

4) i first learnt the hymns in the EASY book and when i could play the easy ones I moved to the harder ones

    As of this morning 3 years ago

    ...I can play the right hand of “Jesus, the Very Thought of Thee” quite nicely without screwing up, and at a decent tempo. Best of all, it’s not even in the key of C, and it’s got at least two accidentals and I can STILL play it.

    I might be able to learn a couple a month at this rate.

    I know I’m capable of playing the hymns, and learning one in a month is feasible, I think, even with my schedule. By the end of the year I could play seven or eight opening/closing hymns, a couple of Sacrament hymns, and a couple of Christmas hymns.

    I’ve tried to get the boys to learn to play just three-opening, closing, and Sacrament-so that if they’re ever in a congregation without a pianist, they can at least do that. So maybe it’s time to set an example!
