This is a long term goal, as I can’t really see that it will happen anytime soon… hmmm, maybe 10th year anniversary (i.e. year 2011) when we decide to re-honeymoon again or something…
How to see the penguins
How I did it: Saw the Penguins for the first time in Tasmania, Australia. They were not the common penguins we know of, like in march of the penguins. To my surprise, they were small and grey. Nevertheless, they were penguins! We sat quietly by the sea shore at midnight with dim torchlights. After some time, they started coming out of the sea and heaps of them landed on the shore.. and started walking in a line. aaww
Then at some point they dispersed and went exactly where they had hidden their eggs and children in the bushes or sand in sort of nests.
It was a great experience especially cause we did this as a family trip. And none of us had seen penguins before. So it was fun to marvel at and whisper in excitement.. while some penguins passed thru right near my feet. XD
I would like to see the penguins again. This time bigger ones.. those black and white ones... maybe in Antartica. :P
Lessons & tips:
- when you go penguin watching, wear warm clothes, thick winter coats and sweaters, wear woolen gloves, and ear muffs, and cap - coz penguins usually come where it could be freezing cold. its natural for them.. not for you to sit on a cold windy sea shore at midnight.
- be quiet on the shore.. don't throw bright lights on them when they arrive on the shore or at anytime.. you'll ruin your own chances of all the fun. avoid photo flash. get a camera that deals better with low lights condition. and you'll have some soft torchlight source anyways.
- again dont talk... only whisper.
- no rapid movements or running around.
- they will freeze and turn around to the sea.. and because of any stupidity their children might not get food
- these are common sense points.
- do this with ur family. coz penguins have family values that will warm ur hearts and bring ur family closer in this beautiful experience.
Resources: there are professional tours.. these are good way to actually get to see the penguins rather than gamble on low chances coz most areas where penguins arrive are guarded and operated by some private or public organisation. in a way that's horrible to pay someone to see a natural wonder.
