How I did it: I walked into Lowes, located the Venus Fly Trap, found the best one I could, and bought it. It was about $5.00. I hope I can keep it alive. I've brought it home and my nephew was pretty excited to see it. Now if I can keep it alive, it should be able to catch some flies. Read how I did it… 2 years ago

I bought my Venus Fly Trap at the grocery store. If I recall correctly, my little fly trap lived for about six months. My family went out east for summer vacation and he came with us. One day, I killed a mosquito in our tent trailer and I fed it to him. He died about two weeks later. Perhaps being in the car a lot was too much for him, or maybe it was the mosquito, I’m not sure… I bought a ‘Grow Your Own Venus Fly Trap’ kit a while back and I eventually plan to use it to grow my own plant. :) I plan to set up a proper terrarium this time and see what happens. 3 years ago

For the longest time my plant would not eat flies. His little “mouth” was barely as big as the flies. I even put a dead fly in there for him once and still he didn’t eat it so I had to fish it out later haha. One day I noticed that his trap was shut and there was a fly in it. I was so proud! I don’t think it ever opened up again though, and he died for some reason. Knowing me, I forgot to water it. 4 years ago

but i think mine was on a diet… it didn’t eat the flies that landed in the trap for whatever reason, and it died. :( 4 years ago

It wasn’t getting enough flies I guess so it died. It was fun while it lasted though. 4 years ago

I actually owned two! One named Dolly, and one named Dali, lol. Dolly now lives with the little boy I babysit – he sat fascinated in front of it for a good half hour…Dali is going strong, and expected to flower soon! 5 years ago
