Quitting coke  — 6 months ago

I want to stop drinking coca-cola…....I mean, I drink 5 or 6 cans a day, and that is ridiculous. No wonder I can’t sleep very well at night. I used to drink more coffee, but, now I drink more Coke. Any tips from anyone out there? One thing, Please pray for me. Thanks, Deb

two full days  — 6 months ago

I haven’t had any soda in two full days. I thought the caffeine withdrawal would be bad, like it usually is, but I haven’t gotten any headaches yet.

Even though I feel like I am over the caffeine bit, it is very tempting to go and have some more, especially since people next to me in class today were opening sodas with that chhhhh noise of the escape of carbonation.

Blah. Maybe I’ll have the non-caffeinated sort later.

it is so hard to stop drinking it. I think I am addicted to caffeine. every time i stop, i get migraines and i feel incredibly sick.

however…. i hate that they are so many calories. and i can’t drink the noncalorie sorts because they taste disgusting.

it's difficult  — 10 months ago

Why is Coca-Cola so damn good?

I’ve been trying to quit for a while now. I did quit in 2001 but then got back to it, it’s so hard to resist.

I’ve been switching to Coca-Cola Zero and Pepsi Max but sometimes I let myself go and order a normal Coke.

Have to try harder! Have to try harder!

Reasons not to drink COKE

Have you ever wondered why Coke comes with a smile? It’s because it gets you high. They took the cocaine out almost a hundred years ago.

  • In The First 10 minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. (100% of your recommended daily intake.) You don’t immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor allowing you to keep it down.
  • 20 minutes: Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get its hands on into fat. (There’s plenty of that at this particular moment)
  • 40 minutes: Caffeine absorption is complete. Your pupils dialate, your blood pressure rises, as a response your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. The adenosine receptors in your brain are now blocked preventing drowsiness.
  • 45 minutes: Your body ups your dopamine production stimulating the pleasure centers of your brain. This is physically the same way heroin works, by the way.
  • >60 minutes: The phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium and zinc in your lower intestine, providing a further boost in metabolism. This is compounded by high doses of sugar and artificial sweeteners also increasing the urinary excretion of calcium.
  • >60 Minutes: The caffeine’s diuretic properties come into play. (It makes you have to pee.) It is now assured that you’ll evacuate the bonded calcium, magnesium and zinc that was headed to your bones as well as sodium, electrolyte and water.
  • >60 minutes: As the rave inside of you dies down you’ll start to have a sugar crash. You may become irritable and/or sluggish. You’ve also now, literally, pissed away all the water that was in the Coke. But not before infusing it with valuable nutrients your body could have used for things like even having the ability to hydrate your system or build strong bones and teeth.

This will all be followed by a caffeine crash in the next few hours. (As little as two if you’re a smoker.) But, hey, have another Coke, it’ll make you feel better.

Getting there  — 1 year ago

Coke gives me a tummy ache and it’ s crap anyway but it was kinda hard to stop drinking it with the meals as everybody else in this house did it. Now I haven’t been using it for ages and I’m very happy :) Water’ s better for me. I’m gonna try not to drink Coke again :S

Worth doing!

I was drinking this a few times a month on average but in February I decided to stop drinking it for good.

Almost 2 weeks.  — 1 year ago

Worth doing!

Well, I have stop drinking coca cola for almost 2 weeks and any other kind of softdrink. I started to drink sparkling water with lemon and totally stoped with coca cola.

How I did it  — 1 year ago

Worth doing!

First, I started substituting Coke just with cold sparkling water, because I was addicted not just to Coke’s taste, but also to the ‘shhh’ sound of opening bottle can, first freezing sip, the sparkling sensation with the first gulp… So at first I thought I don’t need to loose all that stuff, first I afforded to loose only the taste. Like for 1 month I was just getting a good mineral water (cold) instead of my Coke that I’ve got used to, then I’ve started to reduce the portions… And now I don’t drink it at all, (unless maybe at parties). And visit one of those sites who list all the components that they usually put in soda water (not only cola), and read about the effects they have on your body, go to google and do it! I mean it! Guys, there’s approx. 20 teaspoons of sugar in 1 liter of Coke! Just imagine you’re eating that stuff, choking yourself with that white powder! And to conceal the actual sweetness, they put orthophosphoric acid, which helps to get calcium out of your bones… Will you drink any acid by your own good will? So your better quit… May be drinking mineral water instead will work for you the same way it have worked for me. Just don’t get addicted to the cold water ;) Try to avoid drinking cold beverages along with the food anyway – it’s not good either for digestion…

I'm on day 4!  — 1 year ago

I haven’t had coke for 4 whole days. That’s AWESOME! I got tired of looking in the mirror at all the fat, so I’m doing something about it. First to go is the 800 empty calories a day. And NO THANK YOU, I’ll pass on the diet Coke.
