This is one of the major goals for the next year, although I am sure it will take longer than that. I just want a small cabin with enough room for me. I want one big room to be kitchen, living room, bedroom and office, and then I want a bathroom, and full walk-in pantry off to the side, with a fireplace in between them. I would like to do this with as much free, scavanged, and recycled material as possible, with as little debt as possible. I would like to be able to have it totally paid off within 5 years.

The thing is, I’m not sure if I want to do this on it. Maybe I’ll start with the sauna idea. I want to build the place and market it as a writer’s retreat. You know, no cell-phones allowed, meals included, one week retreats where you have a reference library and a couple of other writers to brainstorm with and an on-site editor to take a look at things if you want.
Though, come to think of it, a cord wood house with solar panels for heating… as long as there’s a way to get water…. hmmm….

I just want to build the house. Design it, build it, sell it. Maybe I’d even go so far as to live there for a year or two, but it’s just something I want to do to investigate the practice. I know it’s good for the environment and all that. it’s just that I’m a city girl through and through, and any location I find that will let me go ahead and do this, will pretty likely not be in the city….
