Has anyone ever done a community wide clothing swap? If so, where and how? Please give details. Thanks
How to host a clothing swap
How I did it: I sent out facebook invitations to about 30 friends, 9 showed up. Most everyone brought their discarded clothes.
I asked people to bring snacks and I'd also ordered a large vegetarian pizza and made a small pitcher of cosmos and a bottle of Martinelli's for the non-drinkers.
One particularly outgoing woman played MC showing each item
individually and we spoke up if we wanted it. Everything had to be
tried one before anyone actually claimed it.
I'm going to have the ARC pick up the leftover items next week.
Lessons & tips: You'll be surprised when people want. I had a pair of old lounging pants that had shrunk to too short for me. I almost didn't include them because I thought no one would want my old PJs. But 3 people wanted to try them on and the taller girls were sad that the pants were too short and the shorter girl loved them and wore them for the rest of the night.

Coqueangela is super happy I'm living in this moment in time.
this is a goal I want to have made, but for now I am focusing on other things. I do want this to happen though, maybe I can free up some time for it this upcoming month….
energy is sadest ever.
I just realized how awesome it would have been to host this on Black Friday/Buy Nothing Day! Alas, that is too short notice, so it will be a week from Saturday.
I am tempted to invite way too many people. Or host more than one event. How do I decide how to narrow it down? Maybe just invite everyone and assume that many people can’t make it. So what if my book club mingles with my high-school friends and former coworkers…

I am so happy to say that I am organizing a swap for next month, or maybe december.
It should be lots of fun!!!!

Oh that was a blast – it really was. There were 16 people here altogether, from my old best friend in grade-school (who I haven’t seen since for about 15 years!) to two ladies I met for the first time.
My pre-gathering stress was unwarranted. There were plenty of people, tons of clothes (insane amounts!), and cream puffs, brownies, tipsiables and sparkling pomegranate juice. We had so much fun – and everyone left with armloads of things they really liked.
I didn’t have much of a chance to try much on, but I put aside some things I liked and played dress up today. 95% of what I grabbed fits and I love it! I’m wearing a pair of great black cords and a purple t-shirt. Even Markus found a pair of great fitting Levis and a work coat.
Now I just need to deal with the aftermath. It looks like a second hand store exploded in the living room. Two friends stayed late to help start sorting, but it was too much to deal with last night.
Wheeeeeee! I won’t wait 2 years to do this again!

Gadzooks – I didn’t realize how much stuff was here already. I lugged everything into the living room (there was a LOT in storage, including some leftovers from last time) and have been doing laundry like a madwoman.
There are bags that other people dropped off early too. Oh I don’t know if I’m ready for tomorrow. I’m so tired. The shower has a dozen dresses hanging in it and the kitchen is full of boxes. This has taken over the whole house. Eeeek!

I finished up the invites and since 99% of the ladies I’m inviting are on facebook, I made an event invite and sent it out an hour ago.
I’m finding this vaguely intimidating, since I think it’s been about 2 years since I’ve had any sort of planned gathering. I’m sure it’ll be a smashing success… now I just need to organize my clothes & plan refreshments & such.

Slow motion perhaps, but motion.
I picked a day and am currently working on the invite.
A couple of friends are already excited & bringing snacks and more friends. I really need to dig out all the clothes I put aside for this. At least there’s a time line (clothes line?) in place now. The first of March.
Wheeeeee!
Sounds like a great way to clean out the closet! What a cool idea, getting together with friends and swaping clothes. Tis’ a creative way to recycle, thats for sure :)
I coordinated a clothing closet when I worked in the social services field about twelve years ago. This was one of the most satisfying things I have ever done! I asked members of the families within the headstart preschool that I worked at to contribute in different ways ie: launder clothing, donate hangers, help organize clothing, ask neighbors and friends for donations ..the outcome was amazing, with all of us working together many of the kids had warm clothing available to them at no cost, and members of the community became involved just by word of mouth. So many more children (and some adults) had clothing than initially anticipated.

I really need to do this again – thoroughly sort through the closets and get the girls out for fun and clothes purging.
I may be hosting this with a couple of friends who said they were interested, so it may not be at my place this time, but I’m hoping to have something planned in the next month or two.
