So the idea to “Do One Good Thing” came to me today on the beach. My husband was fishing and I was walking around, with my iPod, dancing, picking up trash. I had seen an empty bottle on the way out, and thought to myself – what a shame. Then, I saw a couple pieces of glass, and thought to myself – someone could step on that. But then I thought – I should take action. And I did. I walked around the beach, dancing and grooving, and picked up trash. I took pictures of many of the “treasures” that I found. I was having so much fun. I put cigarette butts in that beer bottle, and I found lots of straws. I had such a great time. I think this is my new favorite activity. You get to be outside, listening to music, taking pictures, finding fun treasures (as they say, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure. It’s true!)...
Oh, what a beautiful day!
How to do one good thing daily
"I started a website www.kindnessla.com that helps people find volunteer opportunities in Los Angeles and also promotes Guerilla Kindness Days."
How I did it: I was inspired by the kindness of others who rallied around the family of a 15 year-old boy who was seriously injured in a skateboarding accident but eventually fully recovered. I wanted to share with others how great it feels when you can truly help people in need.
The Guerilla Kindness Days on www.kindnessla.com offer one suggestion a month that anyone can do to bring more kindness into the world.
Lessons & tips: Go to www.kindnessla.com to find out more
Resources: A Mac computer and the guys at the Apple Store at the Grove in Los Angeles helped me build the website.
Attending the Southern California regional meeting of California Volunteers gave me the ideas for links to post on www.kindnessla.com for volunteer suggestions.
