own a pet tortoise

I like tortoises, but I don’t think I’d have one as a pet again because all of mine have had an unfortunate habit of wandering off and losing themselves. You think that they move slowly and so they won’t be able to get very far, so you let down your guard and don’t pay close attention to where they’re going, and then when you turn to look for them—SHAZAM! they’ve vanished. Tricksy little things.
