"a nice thing to come back to..."

How I did it: I just sat down one day and pulled out the red fabric I had for making a gris-gris. I hand stitched a drawstring bag (flannel) and put my treasures inside; my own hair, some charms and talismans, personal items.
It is a nice feeling to sit down and stitch something by hand once in a while. Very soothing, very earthy. It reminds me of doing projects with my great-grandmother or my mom.

How I did it: I now remember how to use a sewing machine, and in the past couple of weeks I've sewn two dresses from start to finish, and they turned out great. Though sewing takes forever and isn't always that much cheaper than just buying something and is completely frustrating if the machine screws up, I'm hooked and am definitely continuing.     I loved sewing when I was younger. I began in junior high and continued right on through my early years in marriage. However, life became busy and I didn’t really seem to have the time. Now, I would like to begin again.

    Many women my age find it extremely frustrating to buy clothes. The problem is that our body shape changes, but we still are young at heart. I don’t want to look like I’m 20, but I certainly don’t want some of the matronly looking styles on the rack. Neither do people have the money to buy the designer styles that really look great.

    Another area is finding curtains that I like. I suppose I could hire someone, but that can be expensive. I have made drapes in the past, so I know I could manage this as well.

    It may be that one of these areas could prove to be lucrative as well. In any case, this is something that really want to pick up on again as soon as I get some other things taken care of.

    Not sure what it will be. Many repairs needed: a blanket, my coat pocket, hem of my work pants. I have a great sewing machine that I haven’t had a chance to use.

    I got a sewing machine in the spring, but suffered an uprooting of my life that has delayed me using it. In September I’ll be ready to do this.

    Especially since I’ve found an e-alarm to remind me of my wantings. :P

    i just never do it. i think part of the problem is that the sewing machine is set up downstairs and no one ever goes down there. i have tons of projects i’ve wanted to do…i need to finish them!
