Incorporate my business

I would like to incorporate my business Vensure.net so I can start looking for investors to fund my projects.

Ok – i want to do this. i need to do this. Why haven’t I? I’m a freelancer, this company status will help me with work. Why am I dragging my feet?

finished, finally. lots of paperwork but worth it if you are someone who is organized. forces you to be on top of your business and gives visibility to goals & areas that need improvement. plus, the tax savings and liability deferment is great.

I’ve filed the organization report, issued stock, bought a corporate seal, wrote the bylaws, an had my first meeting of the Board of Directors, (my wife and I) and passed a dozen corporate resolutions.

Since the next step is pay unemployment taxes, pay income taxes, pay federal taxes, pay FICA taxes, I’m not so interested in this any more, but it’ll happen because it must from here on out.

Done and done.

so now i have a corporate charter, articles, a website, AND a bank account and some money in the bank. And as of today, I even have a paying customer.

Last step is to file my organization meeting report, and finish the bylaws.

no want to do this. MUST do this. Preferably by 6/30/07.

I finished the process at the state web site last night, and today I turned in my city business license application and mailed my IRS form 2553 (S-corporation election). I still need to set up a company bank account, but the incorporation process is done—and it only took a few hours, spread out over a couple of days. Doubtless it will go even faster should I ever need to do it again.

I started the process tonight, but evidently the state needs at least one business day to approve the name, so I’ll have to wait until tomorrow night to continue.

I’ve been meaning to incorporate my consulting business for months. I’ve got examples of all of the forms, I’ve got a pretty good idea what I need to do, but I keep not getting around to it.

Of course, I’m thinking about it now in the middle of the night, so I probably won’t do it now either :) But I should really sit down tomorrow and just get it done.
