I can’t wait to be able to enjoy fresh herbs! My husband and I got the ground ready last weekend and I planted herbs last Wednesday. I am told the risk of frost is over. I am crossing my fingers.
I am planting a huge herb garden with 2.5’x12’ plot in the full sun. I dug out 8 inches of clay and put in a mixture of garden soil and top soil.
I am planting: Rosemary, Thyme, Parsley, Oregano, Cilantro, Spearmint, Sweet Peas, Catnip, Sweet Basil, Lime Basil, Purple Ruffles Basil, Basil Genovese, Borage, Nasturium, Dill, Lavender, Lettuce, Chives, Garlic Chives, Savory…. I started with a Burpee Herb Seed Kit.
I am also growing a Roma Tomato Plant. I am starting this one from a plant.
Worth doing!
It doesn’t get much better than having fresh herbs at your back door for cooking.
Does anyone have any types for an indoor herb garden? I live in San Francisco, and I have no where to put an herb garden outside. I am concerned, though, because I also don’t think my windowsills get too much light…. Any advise? Which herbs to plant and how much light they need?

At long last- 2 cilantro, 2 oregano, 2 thyme, 2 flatleaf parsley, and 3 jalapeno plants. Can’t wait to put them to use.

but they are doing really well and I am enjoying it. I planted them in my garden rather than in pots after paying $3.79 for some fresh dill! I’ve planted: chives, fern-leaf dill, cilantro, basil, and parsley. Very easy to grow and take care of. Yesterday I had some fresh chives in my cottage cheese and added some fresh basil to my spaghetti sauce. Yum. I especially love fresh basil in Pho (SE Asian noodle soup). Including my cilantro, I am growing all of the ingredients I will need to make fresh salsa.
Ok, so I don’t have a nice yard or anything to keep the herbs in but I live in California. I’m sure a bunch of potted herbs will do for the time being. That way I can have fresh herbs when I cook. :)
First of all, I haven’t a clue about the outdoors, much less a garden. I can’t exactly remember where I got the idea of starting one, but it’s been in my mind for some time now. Today I started looking into information about different gardens. I think that I’ll try my chances with an herb kit right now, seeing as it’ll teach me about gardening, and then later on I can maybe transplant the herbs to a more permanent area. A tea kit and a salad kit are available online and maybe a local store. My mom said she might bring me sometime soon to investigate some more.
