Be a lounge singer

I used to download songs all the time when I was in my old office. It didn’t even matter whether I’m on shift or not. I need to listen to my compilation because it keeps me from blowing my top and believe me it happens several times in a day in my line of work.
My last obsession was completing my lounge music folder of mp3’s. It’s filled with music from Louie Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and other phenomenal artist. I heard Christine Hipkiss’ version of ‘Bluemoon’ and something just sparked inside of me. I knew that moment that I atleast have to try. I mean I can sing, that’s a start. I just need to find out what the next step is (so far the internet has been really helpful).

Unfortunately this will have to wait for at least 18 months. I’ll be in Chile until October of 2010.

I have always respected people with musical talent, and Lounge singing has always caught my attention. I want to do it one day.

I do Karaoke once or twice a week. I love the feedback. I’d love to be a lounge singer but I don’t know how to go about it or who to see.

My friend asked me if I was interested in forming a pianist and solo vocals lounge act, and I said Yes!!

We started practicing and listing the songs we’ll be singing last week.. We’re just hoping that we’ll get employed by November.

I’m so excited, and scared that I might not be good or that other people might tease me or something…

but anyway, I’ m more excited. :)

Instead of practicing, I’m surfing the internet to find out more about singing. Perhaps I’d better go in and lay down some work. I don’t even know what this site is actually about but I’d be interested to see what others think of this job.

For me singing is a real passion. I sing when I wake-up, take a shower, drive to work, take a lunch break, while I’m working, on my way home, etc. Basically, I sing all the time.
Everyone who knows me always ask me the same question. Why aren’t you doing this for a living. Usually, people encourage me to pursue this as a career and many times I am stopped by friends with song requests to be sung on the spot.
I know it is something I love and can do. Therefore I’ve decided to do more with my God given talent and become a lounge singer.

Every time I think about being able to sing standards, jazz, and lounge songs, I get so excited. I feel that if I get the chance to do so, I’d be more alive. I’m actually looking for venues where I could try lounge singing here in the Philippines, but I don’t know how and where to start. Most hotels require singers to have an instrumentalist with them. Oh if I could only play the piano and sing..
