i’ve always wanted to do this, and on my trip to oklahoma i finally got the chance. It was a lot harder than i thought it would be, because they don’t stay lit the whole time like in teh cartoons, but instead blink. but with patience, adn a glass jar, you can do it! I enjoyed it a lot, it is the epitamy of a traditional summer evening.
The true mark of summer, the first night the Lightening Bugs come out. Since I was a little kid I used to spend the whole afternoon into the night chasing them around the yard in pure bliss. It remains a tradition to catch atleast one in my palm until it glows before setting it free on that first night. I think it will always bring a smile to my face.
I sorta caught one, not in a jar but with my hand. It was really cool, so I consider this goal met. :)
magical..
long summer nights in the backyard spent trying to catch fireflies…remember to let them go! ;)
I remember when I was little in late summer nights, I used to go play outside try catch firefly, look at them and then see them fly away from my hand…aahhh…it was beautiful…:]
i have never seen fireflies in california, so meeting this goal would require an even greater adventure because i would have to travel. hooray!
I saw fireflies last night circa 9 o’clock. Me and my friend had to go to the grocery store so we were going to catch them when we got back. We got back and I SWEAR all the fireflies vanished. VANISHED. Yarrrrrrg. Next time I’m going to be more impulsive and just do it.
I did this for countless hours over summer nights when I was child. I hope to resort back to childhood antics this summer.
