I applied to be an ordained minister at the Universal Life Church. I understand that there are issues of which website is the official ULC website, so I applied for them all.
But it was worth it because getting the certificate symbolized a promise to myself that I would dedicate my life to helping others both psychologically and spiritually. I do not have any plans to perform marriages or other religious rituals, but plan to use this as a personal step for myself instead.

drley is Studying Bible Doctrine and working on a degree in Biblical Studies
Whether it’s worth it or not depeneds on many things. For example, are you truly sincere about becoming an ordained minister and all it entails? Do you or will you expect acceptance by the major religions? Are you going to start your own church? Are you planning an outreach program? Your motives and plans are very important. Remember, if you are not truthful, honest and sincere, you are effectively lying to the Holy Spirit and purchasing a ticket to a place that never gets cold, is very dark, and will scare you more than you can imagine.
But, if you are true, it is one of the most rewarding things you could ever, ever do. May God bless each of you in your choice and guide you through every step, every obstacle, and into every joy and peace that only God can give.
Your friend, brother, and co-laborer,
Dr Ley

I simply went to the Universal Life Church website and entered some info, then got to print out a certificate. You can also order all sorts of credentials and paraphernalia, which I haven’t done. It’s an odd feeling to occasionally remember that I’m a minister…

Our friend Kellie, an ordained ULC minister, performed our marriage ceremony.
My father, his mother, and all of his siblings are ULC ministers, too.

In 1988/1989 is studied at The New Seminary in NYC, but I left right before being ordained, after discovering one more time I just didn’t believe in god. I tried to connect with a “higher power” but that didn’t do it either.
I am now retired from teaching and working part time as a wedding/funeral celebrant. This is very very rewarding work. I hope to obtain additional academic credits, and prehaps a masters in social work. But for now I am content. Finally

I’ve been an ordained minister through the ULC since 1998 and I tell you it’s great.
You are legally able to perform any and all services a minister is allowed to do and make up your own religion at the same time.
