What do I need? 16 months ago

I know that this is going to be a big investment, so let’s figure out what I need.

Well, the obvious things are these:

1) Land. Exactly how much I need, and how much I can get, I have no idea.

2) Buildings. I know I’ll need a house, stables for the animals, a barn and a storehouse. Beyond that, I have no idea.

3) Equipment. There’s a lot of equipment that I’ll need to have, such as the shears for the sheep, tools to work the ground, move the hay and such, cleaning supplies and riding supplies for the horses, cleaning supplies for the dogs and sheep, ect.

4) There will be perishables and the like that need to be looked after. I will need feed for the animals, food for the rugrats, as well as water and medicines…

Can you guys think of anything else?

My dream ranch 16 months ago

My dream ranch is in the countryside, amid hills. I’d love to have a pack of dogs or wolf hybrids, and I would also love to have horses and sheep. Also, the plan is to, by then, have a wife and at least two kids running around, so yeah X3

We're headed in the right direction 21 months ago

We plan on going to a ranch and staying for our vacation next summer. Maybe we can learn a little what we are up against.

ranch 2 years ago

for as long as i can remember me and my mom have always watched animal planet. Anyways my fav. show on there has always been the one where they rescue animals from the wild that would other wise have no chance of survival. Like a baby bear who’s mom died and they’re to young to fend for themselves…. anyways i’ve always wanted to own a lot of property up north somewhere to rescue animals…

Conservation 2 years ago

I’m very interested in stewardship and land conservation and I think purchasing a large ranch is a good way to protect it for future generations. Something like this place: http://www.mirrranchgroup.com/forSale/colorado/lazyh_description.html
would be fantastic. Durango is a great town also.

Once upon a time my now ex-mother-in-law owned a ranch. Some of the best times of my life were mornings, just sitting on the back of one of the horses, bareback, drinking my coffee while he wandered and grazed. Lovely memories. Moments like that make the work more than worthwhile. I think I might like to have that again.

I want more 2 years ago

A year ago my husband and I bought 13 acres to start our farm…. and I want more. We have desided that within 10 years we want to own no less than 50 acres. I told him that was the minimum for it to be called a ranch. I want horses everywhere and a small herd of some good cows to keep meat on the table and I’ll be happy for the rest of my life.
