i can’t imagine myself ever actually finishing this book. among other things, the author’s incorrect use of french made me stop. maybe when that stops bothering me, i’ll be able to pick it up again.
How to finish reading Infinite Jest
How I did it: I took a break in the middle and read another book. When you hit page 500, things start to become more engaging and you realize exactly what he's doing with everything. It's a great read, definitely one of my favorites.
Lessons & tips: Don't feel stupid for reading it slowly. His language is complicated, his sentences are long, and his paragraphs are never-ending.

Finished Infinite Jest? Isn’t that an oxymoron? Well worth the ride. The parallels with other literature, the parallels with an age of endless information, the unlimited knowledge of the author all make this an incredible ride well worth the toll. Just push through…it’s worth it.
The best thing about finishing this book is that I don’t have to carry around a 6 pound object in my backpack all the time anymore
So, I’ve now read this 6 times. This time, I read some critical analyses, which illuminated some aspects that I had not noticed or fully understood. This book has so much depth and breadth and subtext- so much everything- that even after multiple readings there are still new things to learn about this rewarding book.
A very rich reading experience. Might be too discursive for some, but persist and you’ll be rewarded.
When I began reading it, I felt it would be fumdamental to me. Nothing to say. Really. Fundamental.
If you’re more than halfway through, you probably want to know how it ends. Unfortunately—and stop reading if you don’t want my analysis of how the ending measures up—reading all the way to the end won’t tell you how it ends. It just ends. And maybe, if you went back and really concentrated, maybe you would get more than a vague notion of resolution. But I doubt it. And if you have the time to read Infinite Jest twice, well, more power to you.
That said, it is still my favorite David Foster Wallace book.
not later than the first week of august. I definitely cannot bring it with me on holiday (because of the weight)
I was so into it for so long, but the ending… gaaah, I should have seen it coming. This book was stolen from me in college, and I’m kind of glad since it removes the danger of easily re-reading it. :b
