Tammy is blooming where I'm planted!
...to go greener.
For years I have…
grown organic gardens
use environmentally safe cleansers
walked places
recycled
composted
never fertilize with chemicals
many more…
Recently started…
bying produce from local farmers market
give 40% business discount to any green company http://sosservice.org
switched light bulbs
buying recycled paper for my business
recycle cartridges.I send them to http://greenrecyclepro.com
printing double
use less bath water
turn off monitor at night and computer in sleep mode
unplug anything electrical when not in use
only buy organic. If I can’t find it…then I make it.
use cloth bags for shopping. No plastic for me!
ck for PVC mark on anything plastic that I buy. TOXIC!
Stop polishing my nails. Remover is a toxic solvent.
stopped using aerosols
only buy organic makeup or from green companies
still thinking of more to do!

There are endless ways to improve on this.

Ken Chen Trying to keep my desk clutter at a minimum
-Installed Gas water heater instead of electrical one.
-Disconnect all appliances when I’m not using them.
-Grow my herbs and vegetables
-Don’t let the shower on all the time it takes to shower.
-Reuse plastic bags
-Use the public transport system more often.
-Walk instead of taking a cab
-Using the stairs instead of the lift

Thursday is market day but there were very few stalls when I went today, and no fruit-and-veg stalls. So I had to buy this week’s fresh stuff from Tesco this afternoon. :(
Will go to the market next week – things are sure to be back to normal by then.

I’m always trying to be “greener”. Here’s what I do already:
- cycle to work
- recycle as much as possible (glass, paper & cardboard, tins, plastics as collected by the council, tin foil, anything sellable goes to a charity shop, swop things eg books via bookcrossing/share mags with my sister, borrow rather than buy eg dad’s power tools!
- compost kitchen and garden waste
- grow some of my own fruit and veg
- refuse carrier bags in shops (most of the time anyway)
- collect rainwater in a butt (and I would never use a hosepipe on the garden or lawn)
I guess I need to work on cutting back more on consumer goods (but I do love shoes! g) and buying fairly traded/ecologically sound alternatives. Oh, and buying less meat and buying more locally produced stuff. I’ve been trying for a month or so now to get all our fruit and veg from the market/farmers’ market rather than buying from a supermarket.
