My cat Chelsea is in my room now for at least 15 hours of every day <_< She sleeps near me like she used to awhile ago... One of my other cats is in here often to nap, and my third cat is out a lot and doesn't seem to need much attention. So I think this goal is completed.
I think I can sufficiently mark this off as “done” now.
Our female cat sleeps with us every night, and our male cat joins me each night when I put the baby to bed. Of course, he then demands to sleep undeneath the crib, as if he’s “protecting” him, but usually I can coax him out without too much hassle.
But, we spend a lot of time with them, and I don’t feel guilty anymore that I am short-changing them in favor of the baby.
I feel bad that I don’t spend enough time with my two beautiful cats. They are always happy to see me and will follow me around hoping I will sit down so they can lay all over me. It seems I’m always out doing something and have time for little more than a few pets and a kiss on the cheek. I know they would like it if I would just stay put for a while. I need to brush them more often and dangle a string toy for them occationaly.
We seem to be doing pretty well with this.
Our girl cat sleeps on our bed every night, and we make a game of my chasing her up the stairs when my wife goes to bed since usually I go to bed after her. I also come upstairs to distract her (“kiss her goodnight”) so my wife can climb into bed and not have to move the cat physically from the top to the bottom of the bed.
Our boy cat has now taken more of a “paternal” interest in the baby and has gone so far as to sleep outside his bedroom door most nights now, like he is “protecting” the baby. I go upstairs each night and complement him on a job well-done. And of course, if I’m eating ice cream, he has to come running from whichever corner of the house he is in to share it with me.
So, the cats really haven’t been that displaced by the baby. Yet.
We’ll see what happens when he’s up and crawling or walking.
I think out cats are feeling somewhat put out of place because of the baby.
I am surprised at how well they’re doing with him. Our female cat stared at him for hours this weekend and was always within sight of him while he was fighting off his first cold. At one point yesterday, my wife asked me to bring him downstairs from his crib, and our female cat ran up the stairs before me to make sure I was doing it right.
Even our male cat has taken quite an interest in the baby, though I’m sure he will not admit that to anyone if he’s asked.
However, I do feel bad for them, since we’re not giving them the same amount of attention that they’ve been used to from us. Even when my parents baby-sit for us for several hours, this time ends up being used to clean the house and run errands instead of time for them.
We need to get our priorities straight on this!
Means I have a lot of time to stay home with my furry kids. One is 15 (though exceptionally healthy) but I’m realistic. The other little tubby tabby is 9. I’m probably handling this jobless situation as well as I am because I have these two little stress-reducers. If it weren’t for that bloody paycheck, I’d stay home with them forever. There’s something to be said for recluses.
Spending time with your cats definitely makes you a better person!!It makes me feel better every time!Cats are so sensitive
that they can partly “read” your feelings and moods.
