I studied a fair amount of economic psychology in undergrad, and I’m now fascinated to larn the mathier side of things. I also think it will help me with all sorts of career interests, though ideally I’d love to keep coming back to where econ and psychology meet.

The math side of it makes me nervous, but I really am interested in the way economics impacts every culture, nation, negotiation, and almost every decision I make every day of my life. It’s reach stretches far beyond politics, business, and money management—and I want to learn about all that. I might even go for a degree…

Yesterday I went to my local uni’s fresher fair (and by local uni, I mean the one I live closet to, not the one I’m at!). I was intending to do things like join the tae kwon do society and the dance society but also came across other societies I was interested in joining (and did), namely the economics society, the banking and finance society, and the investing society. None have weekly commitments (I don’t have the time to spare!) but I might occasionally go to some interesting talks or events where I can learn alot. Already when I signed up I got some booklets and things and from starting to read the banking and finance society one I’ve learnt lots about investment banking, and the different things it does and whatnot. Finished reading it this morning, I now have a vauge clue as to what things like junk bonds, stocks, and fund of hedge funds are, which sound like great ideas for the future. All good stuff.
I can also get student discounts on subscriptions to the Financial Times and The Economist. I’m considering the latter.

I bought some text books from a charity shop the other day (so they were both barginous and helped a good cause) and I’m working through the two big fat ones at the moment (designed to accompany academic study of the subject) which will give me a good overview of the areas and issues involved. Then I hope to focus in on areas which I find a) interesting and b) potentially usful, hopefully these two properties will co-incide.
I also got a book about shares to read afterwards, as I already anticipate this will be an area I want to know more about, and this one’s written more as an adults guide to investing, rather than academic study of doing such. Hopefully my knowledge of wider economic issues will help me understand better what’s influencing the markets, so I consider my wider studying to be of importance. Plus, er, it’s kinda fun!

I have a couple books, a few I have even started to read. I have taken some classes in college. Mostly I read online.
