Yes!!
How I did it: I basically emptied the entire kitchen as if I were moving to a new house, and then completely started over. It was physically and mentally draining, as I had to make so many decisions about what should live where and whether I needed certain things or not, what to put into storage, etc. But now it's easier for me to find things, and I have more space for things I use a lot now that I've gotten rid of (or moved) things that I don't use as often.
Lessons & tips: I used a label maker to label many areas in the shelves and cupboards, so when friends and family are here and are helping in the kitchen, they can find where things go. (My mother is always putting things away in the strangest places, and then I can't find them again!)
Resources: Two books that helped a lot: "Organizing from the Inside Out" by Julie Morgenstern, and "One Year to an Organized Life" by Regina Leeds. Both very good books which I recommend.

Yes!!
I need to organize my kitchen. I have way too many things in there, all my children have moved out, and I really need to make my kitchen mine again.

Dozens of plastic storage bowls, a cupboard’s worth of coffee cups, a whole drawer full of knives, plus the ones in the knife block on the counter. (I usually only use my one favorite.) Yesterday I took out all the knives with plastic handles; about half. I couldn’t figure out a better way to pare down the collection.
Need to get on freecycle. Quick, before I change my mind.
Need to find a place to store all my Christmas dishes, punch bowl, stuff we don’t use but maybe once or twice a year.
We simply don’t have the space for all this stuff. It’s a mess.
Im planning to re-organize my kitchen, will do a lot of cleaning and to throw away all those over due dates stuff :-). Probably will also clear my refrigerator and try to stock up some healthy fruits or juices inside.
We’ve lived in our house for almost 6 years and I’m FINALLY ready to plant a garden. This is going to be hard work since I have a bad back. First steps, weeding!
I’ve got way too many containers shoved into my cabinets. I need a new way to store them so that it doesn’t look like a heap of junk.

the final step (fridge) is now complete! Basic steps here: I took everything out, threw out the stuff that was past due, or something I probably wouldn’t eat, then I jsut put everything back nicely. Simple, but definitely necessary, and it made a big difference!
I still have to find a method for my recipes; I think I’ll figure this out when I tackle my pile of magazines.
Now on to the next room!

I live in a rented apartment, so I can really only play with organizing and decorating. Although I am not quite done, it is a completely different room.
These are the steps I have completed so far:
• emptied the cupboards and drawers
• cleaned (scrubbed)
• threw away everything that is old or something I would probably never eat.
• transfered dry things like flour and sugar into canisters.
• lined the backs of the cupboards with fabric (i have very ugly cabinets, so this made a big difference!)
• arranged by category. all my baking goods are together, my appliances are together, my dishes are together…. everything is just where it should be; it makes sense! This was important to me because i know it will be easier to keep it up.
• everything i have is visible, no rummaging! I think this will help to keep everything streamlined because i know what I have, and will be less inclined to by duplicates and triplets….
• painted a huge chalkboard on the wall! This was just for fun.
fridge is the last big thing i have to conquer. and recipes. i really need a spot for recipes.
EEK! I haven’t been updating, but I HAVE COMPLETED THIS!! My kitchen is ALL GOOD!!!
I built a spice rack, hung an under-counter cd player, a magnetic knife holder, and a 3-tier basket for fruit. The result is I have 2 cleared-off and very usable counters! Love it! My challenge is not to get too lackadaisical now. Next: organize all my serving bowls and platters – get rid of some and choose a “home” for the rest.
