was held on Tuesday, June 6, the grassroots movement to raise awareness about the solvable problem of hunger in America. This day serves as a platform for domestic hunger-relief organizations to raise awareness about hunger in America and the work we do.
A coalition of organizations in the anti-hunger community, agriculture sector, federal government, conservation groups, the food industry and the faith community came together on the eve of National Hunger Awareness Day to address the growing number of hungry Americans and chart a course for change for 2006.
People invited to participate in the Symposium, engaged in an expert panel discussion with topics ranging from the role of faith-based organizations on ending hunger to the Farm Bill as a federal tool to address hunger issues.

I received this e-mail from the President of America’s Second Harvest this afternoon:
Our transportation funds for the remainder of the fiscal year have been completely depleted because of skyrocketing fuel prices. Donations of fresh food are in jeopardy.
We need your help right now to ensure this nutritious food does not go to waste when there are so many hungry Americans who need it! We must raise $100,000 by June 30 to meet our Network’s transportation needs.
Right now, a huge donation of fresh chicken is waiting to be picked up. I can’t tell you how valuable a protein-rich donation like this is for struggling families who lack a consistent source of nutritious foods.
Unfortunately, we just aren’t in the position to transport this generous donation and other fresh food donations. Fuel costs continue to soar, and we simply do not have the funds to move this food through our Network.
The need is so urgent I hope you can help. For every $1 you give, we can distribute 20 pounds of food. Your gift will keep food from going to waste by getting it to those who need it most.
P.S. a personal plea from me~
Please send what you can. Don’t let the Oil Robber Barons make one child or elderly or sick person go hungry due to their greed!
xx

...give the homeless shelter 12 cases of snacks and food that was leftover from the event. I gave them cases of oranges, bananas, chex mix, cookies, godlfish crackers and peanut butter crackers and snack peanuts. They were so grateful to receive the food and came out in the pouring rain to get it. I just happen to be in the right place at the right time for them to receive this food. Well worth the effort. :)

Once I ventured away from real estate to work for a catering company. It was a fun job and yet it was the hardest work I ever did.
The one thing that surprised me was the waste. City Health Departments must have their rules but really now. We have licensed food chefs and handlers that provide delicious food for events, parties and gatherings…however if anything is left over the food must be destroyed, trashed or otherwise disposed of. Even the people who paid for it are not allowed to keep it!
We have millions of children going to sleep hungry and yet our landfills are filled with food. What are we thinking?

Kayla’s school is doing a can food drive, so we went through our cabinets and sent some things for a shelter. We’ll pack a few more items next week.

sld1 Resting...at last.
n…ot something that I look forward to doing but once I’m preparing a meal, serving the food or talking with the guests it all makes a lot of sense.
And the gratitude is AMAZING!

Got Papi? buys untouched food when he eats out and gives it to homeless children. I don’t see any on the streets where I reside~ or when I dine out, but there are ways to extend a helping hand.
