can a therapist really help you if you don’t tell them everything you know you should? do you really tell your therapist everything? I have found one i have started to. Now I have to tell my shrink. It feels like the equivalent of telling my father when I was a child. I don’t know if I can do it.

i need to find the right one or it is just a waste of time, but i think this one has done all she can do for me now anyway, especially if i really know what is wrong with my head

Yesterday I met with a woman who does hypnotherapy. Mostly she just asked me a lot of questions. She says she needs to get to know me some before the hypnotherapy in order for it to be more effective. I told her about my problem of getting to bed at a reasonable hour. Her first question was, why is that a problem? Maybe you’re just a night owl?
It was reassuring to hear this, somehow, even though it IS something I want to change. She accepted my reasons for wanting to change it readily enough.
I will see her again in 2 weeks.

My goals for therapy are basically to drop some bad habits that are threatening to become hardened ways if I let them.
I’m pretty good at starting new, wanted habits. For instance, when my dentist told me 5 years ago that my periodontal pockets were increasing, he gave me a packet of really good dental floss, and that was all it took. I incorporated it into my routine quickly and thoroughly and now don’t even have to think about it. Now my “pockets” are nearly all back to healthy levels.
I’m much worse at dropping old, bad habits. For instance, I stay up too late as a matter of routine. even though I have to get up in the morning and go to work. I just live my life sleep-deprived, and have trouble doing anything in the morning. Serious productivity issue.
I could struggle on with these self-defeating behaviors on my own, but why? I’ve got a professional income and no dependants; I can afford to hire an ear. Sometimes getting another perspective can be hugely helpful. And I don’t want to waste any more time.
So I am going to look for a hypnotherapist, because I heard hypnotherapy is useful for helping to break bad habits.
