write a crappy novel

I want to give myself permission to write a bad novel. Hell, everyone wants to write the Great American Novel. But setting that as your goal will intimidate the hell out of you, until you just won’t write anything at all. Okay, I’m going to write a novel—but the first one, may just be okay. Maybe by my third novel we’ll be up to “not bad” and around four or so, we can set the goal a little higher.
