No one writes letters anymore. I am sad.

How I did it: Instead of calling people on the phone or sending an e-mail, I sent letters. Yeah, it takes longer, but having a handwritten letter is incomparably better than some digital words. And whenever I ran out of people to send letters to, I would just write a random one to someone in the phone book and pretend like we were old friends. Read how I did it…

I need to do this more often for family and friends. Who doesn’t love receiving letters? It would make their day and mine =]
The most I seem to manage is writing postcards, which I then hand to people rather than send. I’ll work on this :)
The art of letter writing seems to have died. I want to take time each week to write a letter to either friends or family.
I love getting mail that is not a bill in my mailbox and I would love to pass that gift on to my friends and family and hopefully reignite the practice of sending a letter to friends and family. Letter people know that you care about them in more than a two second email.

A crazy thing happened the other day. I received a facebook message from someone with a very familiar foreign name. Typically I don’t open messages from people I’m not friends with, but that name was just SO familiar. Lo and behold, it was from a young man searching for his “friend (or rather, pen pal)” and thought he’d try my name…
It’s my Polish pen pal from 4th grade!! Crazy!! What happened was that a boy in his class in Poland was emigrating to the US and would be attending the elementary school that his cousin was attending. The cousin was in my class, and so the new kid from Poland was also in my class. So the two teachers got connected, and soon our class in the US and his former class in Poland were matched up and became pen pals. I totally lucked out by getting a pen pal who wrote in English and we wrote for a few years before correspondence fizzled out as it is wont to do once jr. high hits!
So it’s been roughly 14 years or so since we’ve heard from one another, and he randomly thought to look for me on facebook and found me! We’ve exchanged a few messages and then our addresses, and so tomorrow I’m going to write him a real post letter.
I also wrote notes tonight to two former students who have just moved into their dorm rooms. I need to get back in the swing of writing more than just birthday cards!
treasonnn is excited for dee to get a 43things :}
i used to send so many when i was younger, and i’ve gotten out of the habit. i’m going to try to send one letter a week and see how it goes. last week i sent a thank you card, and this week a birthday card! next week i want to just send out some random notes. i think once i do this for 2 months i’ll have gotten into the habit of doing it again and have completed my goal. :}

Oh, but who to write letters to? No one I know writes letters, they didn’t even write to me while I was at boot camp. I fucking hate technology, it drives us apart.
I want to write a good ol’ fashioned letter to someone.
all those years ago…!
I would like to resume writing letters to family and friends because I think it’s nice to get a letter in the post. A nice stamp, nice stationery, handwriting and silly little gifts included.
Even postcards.
I really don’t write any letters or postcards at all because it’s all about texting and emailing these days.
Still would prefer to receive a letter or a card than an email or a text. More personal and more exciting.
molllyjones finds 43things addictive; just wish i'd done this 20 yrs ago
I’m writing a few more notes tonight before hitting the hay and tomorrow after I drop them in the post . . . I’m moving this goal to the ‘DONE THAT’ column.
I’ve gotten into the habit of writing AND SENDING letters, notes and cards and have a supply of stamps to keep me honest!
