New house on its way! 2 weeks ago

I bought a new house. I’m moving there in a few months, as soon as it is finished and furnished.
It’s the house of my dreams: new, big, beautiful, full of light and in a posh suburb. I’m just blessed I have two wonderful parents who supported me financially. I could never have bought anything that beautiful without their substantial support. I feel very lucky to be loved that much!

My starter house was turning into my retirement home..... 3 months ago

I have been in this house most of my life. It was my grandmother’s house. I really had no intentions of moving; however the neighborhood has deteriorated over the past 30 years. I still like my house, I raised my children here, and it is my little piece of land. But I want to see new surroundings, a change of scenery, with something more of an upgrade. Some would think these things are necessities to me they are luxury items. Things like a garage, a shaded area for the grill, my own bathroom (mine all mine). Its the little things that I appreciate.

Difficult choice 8 months ago

This week I have to put my apartment on sale so as to get enough money to buy a bigger house. I’m scared.

It is time to move on. We have grown as a family and as individuals.

Empty nest 2 years ago

My wife and I are empty nesters and our four bedroom house in a suburb with a good school system is too large and too expensive to keep up. Taxes are too high to. A low maintenance condo near to shopping and recreation would be nice.

Moving was a total bitch, I underestimated how much work it would be. We even had movers. I suggest you look for local movers, don’t bother with U-HAUL or BUDGET because 300$ later and you’re still moving it all yourself.

I forget where we found our movers, they were great, but I would check craigslist because they’re pretty helpful. Do not move without a mover, lesson 1.

Lesson 2 is always make sure even the last bit of crap is totally packed/dissassembled, to avoid wasting time packing while they’re there.

Lesson 3 don’t bother with boxes IF you will ever need storage in the future/go camping a lot/plan on moving in the future. Just go to a Zellers or Walmart and get some rubbermaid type boxes. 10 deep boxes and 5 giant ones. Label them with masking tape.

Lesson 4 since you are paying the movers by the hour.. get the heaviest stuff off first and (if your garage has a door access to the house, and has a lock) just have them put all the boxes in the garage to save time/money. Then you can bring things into the house at your discretion, and because the bins are plastic nothing will happen to the stuff inside if you leave some of it there.

All in all, it was the same price as a truck rental and they moved everything in and out for us and drove. New house is amazing.. we love it.. 2 1/2 bath, great idea. If you’re dealing with builders like I am.. don’t worry about anything they have to say and bug them about coming in to fix things as much as you want.

Also if you’re looking for new furniture and don’t want to spend twice as much (and are in Canada) try JYSK.ca!
