I got the book deal that I wanted. I held out. I turned down the other 2 publishers after getting this one. I am so pleased that I waited to hear from the one I have now, so pleased! AND to make it all the more better…...my favorite poet of all-time, MMM, is writing the forward for MY book! I don’t think this is something I will ever believe. Seriously… How?! Goodness. I am thrilled! I will have to write again when I am not reeling like this. I am wordless. Amazing stuff…
Well, even if I decide that I don’t want to work with this other publisher who has offered me a book deal, I got another one yesterday. I’ve decided to publish another one of my manuscripts through them and promote both books around the same time. If the other doesn’t end up to be the working relationship I want for that book, I will at least have this production in progress. The contract is in the mail as of this morning. It looks as though ‘something’ will be rolling within the year, if not one, maybe two.
Just know, that even if you never ever publish a book of poetry in your lifetime, that doesn’t make you an less a poet. Some of the greatest poets were never published. The industry is a tough ride and, though it is wonderful to have an ISBN number and know you produced a book, it is not what makes you a writer. If you write with all your heart, with your honest love for writing, and you’re true…...you’re a writer.
