A great saturday 6 days ago

My 4th flight hour yesterday I got to taxi, radio, takeoff, climb and land (solo – supervised) which was the thrill of a lifetime! I was really nervous about the radio, but I was a champ. I had an older instructor who really pushed me on rudder, slow flight and a few stalls as well.

Been wanting to do it since I was a kid 1 week ago

But it does cost $$. Done 2 “discovery flights” at two local schools and picked one that I’m just beginning with (3 hours so far). I just hope I can stick with it, follow up as much as I can with FSX and work my way through a CBT on the ground.

I’ve wanted to do this for ages. When I was 21 I did a trial flight which was a present from my mum and dad. When I was 22 I tried to learn to be a commercial pilot and I got through to a sim check and completely messed up – I’ll tell you what, flying is hard! I imagine it’s not hard once you’ve learned, but I think it’s going to take me a while to learn so I want to leave this until I’ve got enough money to really put my all into it. Once I start with it I want to keep on with lessons, not stop because I can’t afford it. I work as cabin crew at the moment so my love of aviation can still be a massive part of my life and then when I’m a supervisor I might have enough cash to train for my private pilot’s licence.

Ever since I was little, birds and bats fascinated me. While everyone else was excited to have a ‘fairy friend’ I was the one who wanted to be a fairy, to feel the sun and breeze on my face. Now it would be incredible to pilot an aeroplane, and skim the clouds, flying forever in the sun.

I learned to fly through our flying club in college (Georgia Tech) and its by far the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done with my life. Yes it can be expensive and flying can force you to change your daily spending habits so you will have money for it. But it is all worth it. Words can not express. A tip for beginners – save up some money before hand before you start your lessons. Get it done all at once if you can afford to!

In my opinion flying is the most exhilarating thing a human being can do! I’ve flown in many types of aircrafts and every single time I fly I never want to come down. My friend took me up in his four seater (more like a two seater) Cessna and showed me a few things. It was a lot of fun. Another time was when I flew in a Ultralight. Kind of like a kite with an engine. I think learning how to fly a Ultralight would be blast.
