open an animal shelter

i would one day like to open one but would like to get more information on what i going to need. if i need to go to school for openning one or not.

I have been wanting to do this for a long time I love animals but have no clue as to how to start.

animals are my soft spot.
and would do anything and everything to save them and give them 2nd chances in being happy.

I am also an animal “freak”. I am only 21 and have 3 dogs, 5 cats, 5 rats, fish, hamsters, and lizards. Most of them rescued or found on the streets. I just yesterday found 2 kittens under a dumpster (one blinded) and took them to a shelter. I can’t have any more animals until I am out on my own. My dream – is to open a NO KILL animal shelter. I live in Chicago IL, and will soon be looking for people interested in helping. My family- thankfully- are all animal lovers and i know would help volunteer. I am in college trying to figure out what i need degrees in to get this shelter up and working.

I would really love to do this, and I’ve been told a career in Veterinary Technology is a good start. Starting with an AA, and then obtaining a BS can lead to a career in hospital management, which can (hopefully) lead to shelter management, and then my own shelter. I’m in the third semester of my first year, and LOVE IT. My goal is to open a rehabilitative shelter for out-of-control and abused animals.
