A great company that my friend works for is hiring for editors. Editing is a field that I have always wanted to get into and I hope that I get this job. I just called the hiring manager and spoke with her briefly. I’m worried the conversation was too brief, though. I didn’t want to take up too much of her time.
This is how it went:
Her: COMPANY NAME this is JANE DOE
Me: Hi Jane, this is Mercedes. I applied for the position of editor.
Her: Oh, hello.
Me: I spoke with my friend who works with you and she gave me your number and contact info and said I should call. I am just calling you to express my interest and excitement in the position.
Her: Ok, well thank you for calling.
Me: I hope I didn’t bug you too much.
Her: No, you’re fine.
Me: Ok, thank you.
Her: Thank you, goodbye.
Was that too short? I don’t know. I guess I quickly and efficiently got my point across. I’m getting better at making these phone calls. I just wonder if I should have said more. I think by keeping the phone call short I showed that I valued her time, right? I hope so.
Hope with me that I get this job! I need a change.

I’m starting to think that I should fall back on my childhood dream of becoming a police officer. I think I could do it. I think I would love it a lot more than I love sitting in a cubicle in a chair all day.
It is my dream to write and do visual art every day for my living. I have wanted this for decades and now is the time that I hope to realize this most cherished goal!

At the Wildflower Center here in Austin. The position is educating children and adults on wildflowers, conservation and such-like. I really want this job and I think I would be perfect for it. I don’t have all the qualifications, but I’m calling my contact person there now to check to see that she received my application and that she knows of my sincere interest, passion for this position and drive to learn.
I’m trying HARD! to get the job that I want. Yes the economy is bad but I am better. When I see something that I WANT! I need to go for it. I will try the hardest I can for what I see out there that I want. I will get a great job. I will Call call call email email email and drop by drop by drop by. I will check in, write great cover letters have a stellar, updated resume. These things should be second nature and I’m making them such this time around. I’m not going to settle until I’m doing something I love. Life is too short not to love all of it.
Just do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I am searching again.
I need to keep trying and never give up until I find something that I love.
I deserve to be happy in my career.
I’m starting to write more. I’m getting into the habit of writing a story instead of sitting down at my laptop when I’m bored. A couple of days ago I asked my boyfriend to list three random things (“haunted house” “sheep” and “ocarina” were his answers) and I wrote a story including them all. It doesn’t matter if they aren’t all great… how do you become good without practice?
