Well worth the effort!
A quick trip from Thailand, and easily made from Bangkok, or any other bus accessible place, visas are a snap, and for 25 USD you get a valid 3 month entry (though they will only stamp you for 1 month at a time….extensions through Pehnom Pen). I thought I was just gonna do the temples and leave Cambodia, but that was not meant to be.
Cambodia is beautiful, full of rough scenery, great people. Much less touristy, and esy to get off the beaten path. The capital is also a must see, if you like the options of a bigger city without Bangkok’s overwhelmingness and smog.
My advice on the temples. Stay in seim reap only as long as you have to. Don’t hire a driver for the day, there are cheap electric bicycles after the gates, and allow you to spend your time as you see fit. Take your time…there is a lot to see…too much maybe, and the one day rush will leave you exhausted.
In Cambodia, note that ATM’s accepting cirrus are pretty non-existent (Siem Reap and Phenom Pen only, as far as I could tell) so planning is important. Also all tourists pay with USD, which makes traveling on par with Thailand, even though things should be cheaper.
Love it for the people, not the food! If you want the great food stay in Thailand
