How I did it: I worked my tail off. First I had to do a study then write a dissertation then go through revisions then make a room reservation and invite people, make a powerpoint show then practice it numerous times, then present it.
Lessons & tips: Don't forget about your last research question. I tended to lose time and steam and didn't do as well on the last question.
Resources: Iced tea, coffee, chocolate, and good night's sleep.

I’ve been working on my dissertation for five years now, I handed it in 6 months ago and now finally the defense date has come… And although I really want it to be over, I am very nervous right now (only 9 days to go) – constantly feeling I have either too little or too much time for preparation. And then of course the thought of life-after-the-defense… After five years of always knowing what to do (not really having a choice) I find the idea of actually making plans a bit terrifying…
