I'm not even close  — 7 months ago

I’m not really sure why I thought I was close a year ago, but after a whole year of personal training 5 times a week, I can still only run about 2.5km non stop on the treadmill, when I try to pick up the pace a bit. And running in the outdoors is really really hard – much harder than the treadmill.

However I’ll keep ploughing at it. I originally made this goal about 2.5 years ago so that I could run with my boyfriend and do fitness with him. He’s not my boyfriend anymore but my desire for better general fitness remains.

I am so close! I did half an hour’s jogging without stopping yesterday. But I’m a slow jogger and it wasn’t quite 4km before I tired. Not long now though.

Yes, I've given up but with good reason  — 1 year ago

I can’t believe it’s only been 3 months since I stopped running – feels like forever. I know it’s disappointing, especially since I kept it up for 6 whole months! That’s incredible and I did lose 7-8kg but I also totally fucked up my feet. Yes, turns out I’m one of those excessive pronate people, and because I had a fair bit of weight on me and was running and turning in my heels, over the period of the 6 months of going at it 3 times a week I screwed up my feet. These days sometimes I get up and I can’t even walk. It’s getting better slowly since I stopped running but it’ll take a while. They tried to get me to do the whole orthotic thing but instead I bought me a bike! Now I do RPM twice a week (have been for a while), I’m going to start swimming now it’s getting into summer, and I ride whenever I feel the urge. Cycling is fun. So I got 25% there (I managed 1km without stopping in the end) but that’s OK.

ahhhh. I stopped running for about 6 weeks when the mornings were really really cold. I found that as a result of this, I started sleeping badly, lying awake late at night, really tired every morning, low energy, restlessness and general feeling like crap. My eating habits got worse as well.

Got back out there this morning. FUCK it was hard work! I couldn’t run even close to what I used to be able to without stopping. I stopped to walk heaps. But hey, that is to be expected. I’m just glad that I got myself out there – I was worried I’d never do it again. I am going to stick with this, for the rest of my life if I need to. Now that i know what life is like WITH regular exercise, I never want to feel gross again.

hard to get back into it after a week off due to illness. I just don’t have the stamina back yet and I’m so tired after about 10 minutes of running. Never mind – I’m sure things will get better. And I always feel better afterwards.

I’ve had to put my running on hold while I’m sick with the flu. I can’t ever imagine at this stage getting back into it because I just feel so gross. But I will make sure I do once I am fully recovered.

Running in the evenings is bad and shouldn’t be attempted. Having said that, it makes you sleep very very well.

I can feel myself getting a sore throat and wonder how any sort of sickness will affect my stamina?

Will find out I guess tomorrow.

a very good run this morning. I don’t know how long.. maybe 3-3.5km? But the point being that I did a LOT more running than walking which is fabulous. I don’t care so much that my running pace could easily be “outstrode” by a fast walker, the fact is my stamina is improving. I reckon I ran about 80% of it, stopping only for short intervals. I worked my ass off today and pushed myself more than usual. I am paying for it now – my ass is aching :-p but Go me!

    Plus I’ve dropped another… almost 1kg.

Run today was decent. While I didn’t make it in terms of distance to where I normally would, all in all the percentage that i ran was quite a lot. I am definitely fitter than I was a few months ago, that’s for sure. There is so much to be said for doing something and sticking to it.

I did my usual run but I ran close to 70-80% of the time, as opposed to my normal 60% average. And I wasn’t overly exhausted when I got home.

    Time to work even harder.
Unfortunately I’ve been asked to work earlier on Mondays and Tuesdays. Not really sure what to do about Mondays. Should I get up super early and do a short but intense run, make Wednesday my average run, and Friday my long but less intense run?

    Hmmm.

    Fate  — 2 years ago

Fate doesn’t ever seem to let me slack off :-) This morning I was feeling a bit stomachy and gross so I didn’t run and was on my way to my one-day-a-week teaching job (40 min drive) when they called me half an hour into it and told me the year 8’s weren’t there today so don’t bother coming in.

    thaaaanks.

Anyway I could have just gone straight to my other job but I decided to go home first, bring in the washing, go for a run and take it easy for the first half of the day. I started out on my run and was running past my sister’s place when I noticed she was home so I dropped in. Her son was watching Toy Story and babbled something to me about “special shampoo.” Took me a while to twig – they had head lice. I spent the next hour helping Jo comb head lice from her head. She said that the power was out in the centre where I would have gone to work had I decided to so I would have probably been sent home anyway. So there you go. No excuses for not running.

For a run it wasn’t a great effort but hey at least I got out and did it.
