making another pair  — 2 weeks ago

I am trying to rig my wings into my corset. I’m making both, so it’s not a problem of RE constructing, its getting the corset string enough to hold the wings up. I think I am going to do bitty ones at first, and then try and move up the size from there.

Basic fairy wings for Emma  — 1 year ago

Worth doing!

I made basic fairy wings for Emma when she was about 3 years old, out of two coat hangers and saran wrap. She was SO EXCITED to get a pair, and enthusiastically decorated them.

While she was decorating, she spent a lot of time chattering about how she would fly to various neighbors’ houses once the wings were made and on her. I didn’t realize that she wasn’t just pretending.

But then she wanted me to hoist her up and let her go. “I can fly if you just get me high enough!” I told her that wouldn’t work. “A ladder! Get a ladder!” I told her even more sadly that that wouldn’t work. She could pretend to fly, but real flying just wasn’t going to happen. :-(

Talk about being brought back to earth, the poor thing!

Worth doing!

I made a pair last year for the Renaissance Faire. They were purple and sheer. They looked pretty nice, although I’ll need to come up with a new system for holding them up if I make more in the future – these had part of the wire sticking out of the center and they were slipped into tubes inside bodice I made that I was wearing. It was alright except that the tops of the wings drooped down a bit, and I can’t wear them with anything else.

I DID IT!  — 1 year ago

Worth doing!

I made 2 pairs- the one for my halloween costume, which I sewed directly to my dress & Got a lot of oos and aahhs once we finally figured out how to make them stay up, and the little pair made with hanger wires and panty hose for my little girl that I gave her for her birthday!

I’ll post pictures as soon as I get them up.
