JakeB is not writing. Is doing Xmas things instead
I’ve started my new job and first impressions are great. Lovely people, challenging role and excellent setting. Now I need to deliver what they need from me.
How I did it: I thought about where I wanted to be long term and then made a shortlist of employers, with one at the very top. I checked their vacancies every day and made sure that I was ready when I got my foot in the door. Although I didn't succeed in my first application, I managed to get a place on my second.

In my current job. By the end of this week, I will have virtually nothing to do, so I have asked whether I can leave a week early. Unfortunately, it seems that the answer is no, although my manager hasn’t yet spoken to me.
I can just about stick it another week. My workmates have been pretty sound about it and very supportive of my move. My managers are either avoiding me or else being slightly aggressive – depending on the personality involved. I will be interested to see how the rest of the week pans out.

I got offered the job at the uni today!
I had my interview last week and I really didn’t think it went very well as I was feeling completely run down from all the shenanigans at work. However, it seems that I wasn’t as bad as I thought because they want me to come and work with them in 4 weeks’ time. Hooray!
I am very excited by the position, but I am not going to sign this goal off until everything is signed and sealed.

OK – I’ve done it. Kaput.
After 9 months of weighing up the options, I have decided to leave. The reasons are multiple – bad management, sneaky staff, heavy workload, no support, bad systems. All the usual suspects that contribute towards an unhealthy working environment.
Maybe one or two would have been bearable, but I absolutely KNOW from experience that all of the above leads to a no-win situation.
My life is not about this. It is about positivity, growing, learning and enjoying a healthy helpful existence whilst I am on this planet. I mean to contribute as much loving joy as I can from this point onwards.

I have submitted my application to the employer who interviewed me a month ago and who gave the role to an internal candidate. He did express an interest in me applying again and I love the job so I’m happy to give it a go. It’s pretty much the same job spec, but puzzlingly for a higher wage, so I have amended and enhanced my statement slightly to reflect this and include more skill samples.
My main concern here, is that this vacancy, once again could be a promotion intended for an internal candidate. I know that there was definitely one contender in the existing team who would probably be due a payrise and therefore would need a job role creating before jumping to the next grade.
The upside of this, is that if the internal does move up, then there would be another post free, which I could go for.
It’s all a bit confusing, but I guess I will need to find out if I have an interview first.

That as soon as I post an entry about lack of job ads, that they suddenly appear?! There are now 3 that I can go for this week. Woohoo!

Out there again at the moment. It’s getting a little bit demoralising, but I am determined to keep my chin up.

applying for the junior role. I’ve been in touch with the head of dept and I strongly suspect that I wouldn’t get the job due to being overqualified. Going to sit this out until a better fit appears.

There might be a slim chance that another opportunity has come up, but I’m not counting my chickens.
It’s a junior role, but I would take it if they offered it to me.

I didn’t get the job (pipped at the post by an internal candidate). The interviewer was complimentary and said that everyone in the team thought I would fit in and do a good job. Don’t know how good that made me feel?!! And also on the upside, he did say that there might be a similar post created in the next 2 months and that he would like me to apply.
What was really great about the experience, is that I found out lots about the uni and have decided that I want to work there. I have also made some contacts. Just hope that there will be another chance for me soon.
