learn to write well

I absolutely love reading, but when it comes to writing I am aweful. I’ve tried to start many blogs, but I cannot think of a topic to write on after registration. My grammar is generally mediocre and I’m not very creative on paper.

So I am taking an English class at my local Community College to help me out with this goal. Even though I have a Master’s degree I want to relearn the basics to strengthen my skills.

I would like to learn to write succinctly, be able to make a clear statement and logical argument.

I would like to be a confident writer for a variety of reasons. One is to be able to participate in society and my community by being able to write letters to the editor, council and other forums. Playing an active and constructive part in the democracy I live in.

Also for personal development. Writing is one of the things that I talked myself into believing that I can’t do well. My sister once told me to be very careful of what you tell yourself you can’t do. Its as powerful or even more so than a positive self view. She is right. She said you can create boxes with locks that you believe more and more over time that you don’t have the skills or keys to open.

Time to get out some bolt cutters : D

I would love to learn to write a screenplay, or even an essay. I feel I really should have made the most of my grammar school studies, but a broken family and other issues kept me from focusing on important things.
