Watch Channel 4's 100 greatest films

Now, 16. Casablanca (1942) was a different story altogether, made a year after Citizen Kane it was an altogether more enjoyable film, with plenty of catchphrases littered throughout so it made me think I’d seen the film hundreds of times before, when I hadn’t. A very enjoyable film to watch – particularly on a work day, lying in bed, when it’s raining outside.

19. Citizen Kane (1941) was another very dark film, which had a pretty weird start, lots of stern-faced Orson Welles close-ups and a rather more expected ending about ‘rose bud’. I guess the moral was supposed to be that money doesn’t make you happy. Was suprised that Citizen Kane was rated so highly in the list.

I hope to tick a few oldies off while I am recooperating from having my widsom teeth out. Watching True Blood back-to-back is quite tempting, but the bloody subject matter has meant that I am taking a break from the second season today!

Well, I very misguidely thought that ‘Sunset Boulevard’ was a musical! Ha, not this version – which I have just discovered is a very dark, and very sad, black and white film about the fickle world of Hollywood.

Not ‘entertaining’ as such, but very thought provoking and interesting to compare the showbiz industry of the 20s and 50s seen in the film, with nowadays’ stars. 7.3/10.

I’m sure there will be Noel Coward fans who will want to shoot me for saying this, but Brief Encounter was okay.

I thought the male lead was quite convincing, but the woman was ridiculous! Why was she so shocked by everything, that it looked like her eyes were going to pop out of her head… especially during the cafe scene when they’re both giggling away at the cellist?!

It was a touching storyline though. 6.2/10.

Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid was hilarious. I thought it was going to be an archetypal cowboy film, but it was much more comedic. Plus, Paul Newman and Robert Redford were fantastic. 7.75/10.
