OK, so I’m actually most of the way through this. I ordered a Kikker 5150 Hardknock back in September of last year and built it on my porch and in my driveway. The bike runs and is mechanically sound and I’ve ridden it a bit, but I still need to get a few things worked out before I can make it legal.
The turn signals don’t flash because the flasher is burned out. I’m hoping I can get a new one under warranty… we’ll see.
The aftermarket speedometer I got doesn’t work as wired off the magneto because it’s not getting steady power. I need to figure out how to wire it off the switch.
The state requires 2 mirrors and the crappy little one that comes with the bike is useless anyway, so I need to get a set of mirrors and screw them on. I already have the adapters I need to install a set of standard 10mm mirrors in place of the 8mm Yamaha thread mirrors the bike is designed to accept.
Once all that’s done, I need to take the MSO and invoice and try to get a title for it. Then I’ll finally be legal :)

Start from the beginning. buy a cheapo jap bike 80’s cb750 or yah xs ($200.00 to $400.00) as complete as possible (with title of course), strip it apart, get rig of the standard softail, build or buy a rigid rear (mild stretch), weld on to that a set of kewl rear plungers, that would be the rear side. front would be springer front end, throw on a coffin tank, wrapped pipes (straight), mild rake, mini ape hangers, paint it all matte black… if all this works out, then it would be time to move up to a vtwin.

It’s my dream to build a motorcycle. I don’t know anything about them, though, so I’m in for a rough ride. I’m hoping to get started this winter, at least on my collection of parts and tools. I’ll really get going once I graduate from Bennington in June. Once it’s done I want to travel cross-country until I run out of money and then come back.

to save about $200 each week until i have enough to buy a used harley. then tear it apart, put it in a rigid frame, rebuild the motor and add all the little bits to make it mine.

The Sportster my father bought when I was born could not be found. So I have bought the exact same Model and I have taken it completely apart to rebuild it . Every nut and bolt is out and the Process has begun. The XLCH will ride again soon. pictures soon

While I have ridden motorcycles I have never built one. I want to find an older motorcycle and recover it, perhaps ride it, perhaps sell it. For fun, not for profit. Who knows, I might make a ton of friends this way!

I want to build something that looks mad max esque or ratty. Something that is easy to maintain, probably air-cooled something I can dualsport at least on fire roads. But something large enough to ride twoup and can support a decent ammount of luggage. I don’t really know anything about building a bike though :( so who know how ling this will take me

I’ve never done this and I don’t know where to start. I’m a draftsman I can almost draw what I want to build. Can anyone tell me about the fundamentals of building a frame down to materials where to get them and standard sizes.
Thank you all for any help.

bfwest is creating 3d animated scenes
I am going to start by buying an old Honda CB750 or similar bike, tear it down, modify it during the rebuild. I then plan on creating my own chopper from scratch – frame and all.
Anyone got a donor bike they are willing to give away for my first foray? That was a joke.

actually, i wanna build something different than a motorcyle. i want to build bike-ish thing that has two front wheels (independently sprung) and the entire machine is completely tiltable. meaning, a three wheeled vehicle that can lean into corners. and i want to do it without the hassle and cost hydrolics or actuators. if that’s not crazy enough, one day i’d like to make a business out of selling these things.
