Go onto Itunes, check and search for how to speak mandarin on the podcast tab. Downloaded free lessons to listen when you’re on the move.

Hubby has a mandarin lanquage learning CD or DVD (not sure which) that he got when he first started teaching. He had a lot of Manadarin speaking students and he wanted to be able to speak with them. Apparently, their English was pretty good so he never used the CD. He’s offered to give it to me if I’m still interested and so I will get the CD, give it a whirl and see if I like it. This is so cool because I feel I’m taking the 1st steps toward accomplishing a goal!

I live in Monterey Park where the community is mostly Chinese. It’s getting harder and harder to shop, eat out, etc. because everyone here speaks Mandarin. I’d like to take lessons and think I will check into ELACC to see if they offer any classes or maybe the city. If so, I’ll take classes beginning in winter.

caridia is back from marathon wedding weekend!!

Chinese friends 2 years ago

I am a Christian and go to a lively church in Chatham, Kent. About 6 months ago I started to get to know some girls from the Chinese mainland. A couple of them were also Christians and were anxious to start bible study at their place of work. They live in at work. Other Chinese at the work place started to come to the get togethers and now they too have given their lives to the Lord.
Many of you reading this are probably not Christian but you may be aware of the prosecution of Christians on mainland China. Many are imprisoned and worse for voicing their beliefs. The girls that have come here are nurses. Some are married with children (one per family due to laws against having more than one child) their husbands and child remain in China waiting to come to this country to join their partners.
I am picking up the language as I go and intend to learn as much as I can. It is a beautiful sounding language… but not when I attempt it!!!

It’s not terribly difficult for an English speaker—pronunciation aside. Good luck to you.

IT’S NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN. BUT IF IT DID, IT WOULD OPEN UP SO MANY OPPORTUNITIES TO ME.

I just want to be able to “goram” swear like the characters do on the show.

It’s a pain…but might be useful one day so it’s worth doing I guess!

My First Test 3 years ago

Tomorrow evening is my first test. I have been neglecting my 43 things for the last couple of weeks because I have been spending most of my free time practising. The other students in my class are foreign service officers with an ear for languages…which means (poor me) who took years and years of French and can barely say anything is falling behind. So each night I make flashcards and write sentences and still feel inadequate each class. I must say it is a pretty sucky feeling. I have been practising all last night and all tonight in hopes that I can pull of a good mark on our test. I’m so nervous…
