Build a model castle

I’ve finally decide to make a scale model of Falkenstein castle (in germany) and use 15mm models of knights, peasants and animals to bring it to life. I’ve also got to figure out how to make some miniature trees…. lots of them!

I’ve started collecting polystyrene foam for the insides of the walls. I don’t want it to be too heavy when its finished. I’m looking for suggestions on plaster/stone imitation effects. ANY IDEAS? My brother sugessted “modrock” plaster stips which I think are like the bandages used for casts on broken bones. I’m having trouble finding those.

I have purchased a board for the base now I have to plan the landscape. I can’t decide if I should base the castle on a real one – like Caerphilly or Harlech or just make one up of all the best bits from the casltes I like. I haven’t decided if I want to build a soild static model or on that can be opened up to see inside. AAArrgh! There are too many choices. I can see I am going to be paralysed with indecision soon. I’m just going to go away and see if I can come up with a plan… back in a bit.
