We didn’t see many deer in the SWAs but hunted a private area we had permission for. Over the course of a few days we watched certain bucks go in/out and stalked them through the area. When I finally got a chance at a shot, I missed! argh Buck fever I guess. My buddy got a nice 4-point the next morning.

Went on my first elk / deer hunt last season. A very late start at hunting at aged 38!!
Anyway, it was amazingly enjoyable, especially stalking deer, so am hoping to take my first deer this coming season, now that I now all the good spots. :)
Would love to take a cow elk, too, but that may be a bit harder. We’ll see!

There is nothing, and I’ve almost crashed airplanes, that is quite as exciting as killing a deer. Especially if the deer is running and you take it out with one shot! Let me tell you there is something completely natural, exhiliarting and wonderful in being attached to our food sources in this type of way. Your heart will be beating loudly, adrenaline pumping, you’ll be alert to every sound, every sight will be registerd in vivid color. You’ll briefly experience remorse. You’ll keep thinking about the moment. You’ll relive it with (hunting) friends. Others won’t understand. But when you accomplish it you’ll know. Then you’ll understand too.
PS don’t judge me. We all eat meat, we just usually aren’t the ones doing the dirty work. We all kill deer by eating produce (especially organic food, it takes more land) that has displaced them from their environment.

Meat you hunted and killed yourself is so much more satisfying.

I had no idea if I could actually shoot one until I was put in that situation. After all deer are beautiful, graceful creatures and you need to be willing to end its existence.
Apparently I am willing. I have taken three deer in my life and look forward to each hunting season.
There is no shame in looking down a barrel and deciding to let the animal live. (Just don’t tell your hunting buddies)
