Fun leads to ambition

Playing the ukulele has been a lot of fun. The ukulele has such a relaxed and casual feeling. I can let it sit in my lap while I watch TV and just play during the commercials. It’s really the first time I’ve felt good about an instrument and been comfortable playing along with friends.
But it’s been so much fun that now I’ve been bitten by ambition. I want to be able to play jazz and actually know what I’m doing musically, rather than just memorizing basic chords and songs. So I’ll define my goal, at least for now, as being able to play a couple dozen or so of the jazz standards, be able to transpose them without a pencil and paper, and understand what I’m doing in terms of music theory. Reading music would be great too.
