Hyacinth GirlVancouver Art Gallery

Caught the last day of the exhibition Collecting Matisse and Modern Masters: The Cone Sisters of Baltimore at the Vancouver Art Gallery today. Very nice. 7 months ago

Hyacinth GirlVancouver Public Library, Central Branch

What a neat place! There were a lot of movies filmed here, and I can see why. I’d like to visit this library more often. It has many floors of study space, as well as a beautiful atrium with little shops. 9 months ago

Hyacinth GirlMarine Way

Drove along Marine Way all the way to Horseshoe Bay. It’s windy road along the ocean, lined with thick trees and million dollar homes. What a lovely drive! 11 months ago

akaCleveland Dam

I loved that place! Definitely want to bring my husband there. It’s very close from Capilano bridge and overlooks the lake on one side.

Sunday we spent at White Rock Beach. Not as beautiful and peaceful as Crescent Beach but worth a visit. US was visible on the other side! I can’t wait when we can go there.

We want to see one of the night markets soon and take a trip to Bowen Island. 12 months ago

akaBurnaby Heritage Village

I love that place! And now I know it fairly well since that’s the place where the wedding took place yesterday. It’s free too! I’m definitely bringing another couple there :) 12 months ago

Hyacinth GirlNorth Van

Explored North Vancouver a bit today. Went for a hike in Lynn Valley and took a quick drive around the Capilano University campus. 12 months ago

Hyacinth GirlMacleod's Books

I finally got around to visiting Macleod’s Books. I thought I would love this bookstore, but I found them really overpriced and rude, so I left empty-handed.

However, the trip wasn’t a waste, as there was a bookstore across the street from Macleod’s called Albion Books and Vinyl. The owner was SO nice! She stayed open late for us, and we ended up buying a few records and a bag of books! Good prices, well organized, and really friendly. 12 months ago

Hyacinth GirlStanley Park

Lovely! We walked along the seawall for a few hours, but I’d like to see more. There is a bus close to my house that will take me there. Perhaps I will make a habit of walking there on a regular basis. I imagine it gets pretty busy in the summer though. I would stick to the seawall, as I wouldn’t feel safe walking the forest paths alone. 13 months ago

akaBarnet Marine Park

We went there this Sunday. What a great place to spend your day off! I took tons of photos and this one was the best (I guess). Anyways, my husband loved it :)

akaAround Vancouver

We took our first big-ish road trip since we came here. We drove to Brackendale (amazing scenery but only 1 eagle! :) and stopped by Shannon Falls. The highway offered amazing views. We simply couldn’t get enough of it.

Photo is not mine. 13 months ago

akaGoing places

Today was a busy day
1. Maplewood farm in the morning
2. Gypsy Rose for savory crepes (yummm!)
3. Walk @ Jericho Beach – people, crab and bird watching. 13 months ago

Hyacinth GirlJericho Beach

Went for an evening stroll along Jericho beach with my family tonight. I like walking in the evening. Less people and a beautiful sunset. 14 months ago

akaWalking around

I went for another long walk in downtown today. Had a Japadog in the end of it – it was average, although dry seaweed on top of it was quite exotic. I also went to MacLeod’s Books. Loved it slightly shabby and disorganized look and the selection of books was great (I didn’t buy anything though). Vancouver looks so much better when it doesn’t rain :) 14 months ago

Hyacinth GirlOrpheum Theatre

I went to see the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra last night at the Orpheum Theatre. What a BEAUTIFUL space! I can’t wait to go to another event there, hopefully an opera. 14 months ago

Hyacinth GirlFraseriew Golf Course

Walked around the perimeter of Fraserview Golf Course this morning. Very nice area and only a few minutes from my house. 15 months ago

Hyacinth GirlRiverfront Walk

http://vancouver.ca/parks/activecommunity/news/2010/100618_riverfrontwalk.htm

Went for a walk along the Fraser River today. I think it’s a place I will go often, as it’s walking distance from my house. 16 months ago

akaA couple more

Queen Elizabeth Park and Bloedel Conservatory – lovely place, great view of Vancouver and birds so close you can touch them!

Vancouver Art Gallery – ok, it’s not National Gallery and not even Art Institute of Chicago, but I liked it (especially photography :) I wasn’t allowed to bring my camera inside which was disappointing, but I left inspired. The price was really high – $17.50. They have an amazing gift shop inside too.

Christ Church Cathedral – I’ve seen better churches. Although the lady who was sitting there thanked me for coming and was very nice.

I really want to see -
1. Vancouver Aquarium
2. Chinese New Year Parade – 29th
3. Deer Lake Park – not far from us
4. MAcLeod’s bookstore – it looked very tempting from outside! 16 months ago

akaA few great places

We visited quite a few nice spots since my last update:

1. Stanley Park (partially)
2. Mount Seymour – amazing place, but unfortunately my battery died after a while. Can’t wait to go back!
3. Robson Square ice skating
4. Chinatown – best street photography opportunities so far
5. Yaletown and Gastown 16 months ago

akaHad a nice walk

...in downtown today. It was lovely although it rained a bit. I took a few photos that were not complete disappointment. What I really want is to check the library (especially their Russian literature section :)
