After I finish Peace Corps 5 months ago

So, I should be completing my Peace Corps service in late May 2010 and have the good luck that the World Cup starts mid June 2010 in South Africa. Three other volunteers and I secured tickets to two games and we all also want to climb Kilimanjaro. Planning to travel down to South Africa first for the World Cup, see Cape Town, etc. and start making our way north to Tanzania / Uganda. We will probably be traveling for 3-4 months. Started the preliminarily steps in planning, but I know there are definitely a few things that are a must. Such as spending a lot of time doing volunteer work, seeing as many national parks as possible, climbing Kilimanjaro, rafting the Nile, taking a boat across Lake Victoria, meeting up with other Peace Corps volunteers, taking our time and immersing ourselves in a different part of Africa, etc.

    The Idea 3 years ago

I’m not sure how it all started but at the end of my first year of university I decided that I wanted to climb Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. I was excited at first, and wanted to go right away. Reality set in and I realized that I should wait until I was finished my undergraduate degree.
Years later with my university education end in sight I began to research all things East Africa. The plan snowballed. Why go to Africa only for 8 days? Painful and exhasting 8 days? Go all that way and never experience safari or the beaches on the Indian Ocean? And then what about victoria falls. Okay its far, but still doable. And the dunes in Namibia. And then I discovered the Bazbus, a hop on, hop off backpacker bus travelling the coast of South Africa. I started to read travel blogs and travel books and realized that backpacking in Africa didn’t have to be ‘scary.’ (Providing I had a travelling companion) With a combination of tours, planes, trains and automobiles it could be done.
