Every time I see a guy deftly extract his pocket knife and use it to deal with some irksome or stubborn snarl, I feel a little less of a man. I haven’t carried a knife regularly since my Boy Scout days, but I’m waking up again to the doors (or at least packages) that being a knife-carrier would open for me.
Not having the time to spend learning the fine techniques of martial arts, with a knife I think I could hold my own easily enough against an unarmed assailant. I would have less fear of going certain places, especially at night.
More commonly, a knife would be a tool with which I could sever the tendrils of matter that seek to impede my progess along life’s variegated path.
