MalagaCoveThe past 2 days I've been working steadily on

the living room. The new graphics table is in place. The bookcase boxes were moved last night to go behind it (displacing a lot of books and the loom).

The wrought iron table with the typewriters, alarm clocks & adding machine has a new home, hopefully for most of it, their final home, that stuff is HEAVY!

The move yesterday was prompted by the heavy/awkward wrought iron table & machines. The next move is probably going to be to find the final home for the loom & its bench, for exactly the same reason. I know where I’d like it to go, but there’s (of course!) two pieces of furniture there. More planning and figuring is required! 2 months ago

MalagaCoveDH & I are working on this today

Yay! I’ve been steadily whittling away at the piles o’ stuff in our bedroom. It’s still a mess, but it’s LESS of a mess than it was two weeks ago.

More progress.

MalagaCoveI have cleaned a little room 5 weeks in a row

now on Monday. The world hasn’t ended and we haven’t been on national TV, so I guess it’s all right? (smirk)

I also worked this a.m. on the kitchen, I’ve had (stalled) the project to line the drawers with new paper. I worked on that until I found myself losing patience, and quit. But I got another drawer lined before that happened, and finished up the piece I’d left undone the last time I’d done this.

Progress, not HUGE, but some, discernible.

MalagaCoveOkay. I need to feel better about this.

Rather than just listing the things I HAVEN’T done, I’m going to list some I have:

I sold 44 bookcases last year
Last year I sold/gave away/got rid of approx 8204 pieces total, including those 44 bookcases.

Since 1/15/12 I’ve sold 14 pieces of furniture, asst books, etc. It’s getting there, it’s slow, it’s TOO slow, but it’s getting there.

I forget how much stuff I had, and I do have periods of depression (fatigue?) where I simply just don’t want to catalog another thing. I’m human, surprise!

Okay. I’ve got stuff to do OTHER than my online life, which takes up more and more of my day lately!

MalagaCoveI updated the office list, here's the current status:

moving all the stuff out of here and into the storage over a weekend. We have a huge furniture shuffle to do.

From, description, (new location)

DH’s office, white bookcase (dump?, antique store?, outta here!)
-DH’s office, white counter (my office)-

DH’s office, hanging utility shelving, (shed)
-MC’s office, hanging teak bookcase- (DH’s office)

bookshelves have been removed from MC’s office.

-MC’s office, desk (DH’s office)-

-MC’s office, freestanding bookcases, (DH’s office)-

-livingroom, dad’s cabinet, (DH’s office)-

attic, countertop, atop the 4 of dad’s cabinets, (DH’s office)
Will not happen. Counter is too big.

-storage, bookcases DH built, MC’s office-

-storage, last two drawer units, MC’s office-

-livingroom, sewing machine base, MC’s office-
-kitchen, filing cabinet drawers, back in cabinet, MC’s office-

And although it seems that more than 1/2 of this is going into DH’s office, it should work, although I probably ought to show him this list and we do some measuring beforehand.

I figure this is a weekend’s worth of work for both of us. At the end of it, we’ll end up with two functional offices, with enough storage and workspace for both of us. It’s a tremendous amount of work, but it would get us, in 3 days a LARGE step farther along the process than we are now.

This has ended up being a couple of MONTHS worth of work, not a single weekend!

New (Dec, 2011)
-Remove 3 mahagony bookcases, sell-
-Remove the dresser,- sell or use elsewhere
Buy s rug pad for MC’s office, it’s COLD down there!
-Get the filing cabinet set up and functioning again-

MalagaCoveI forgot these:

storage, 2 drawer units (MC’s office)

You know I really do not believe that I have sold something like 40 bookcases (maybe more?) this year. It seems like I can’t possibly have!

I also kind of feel like I’m standing in the top of an hourglass, and the sand keeps running out under my feet. Not sure what happnes when it’s all gone?

MalagaCoveWe considered again

Dunno if it would work, but that’s the idea we’re batting around right now!

MalagaCoveDH & I talked last night

about how seductive the idea is of moving all 120+ boxes of books, etc. out of the house and into the empty storage space. However, since this is NOT May, but September, I think it’s a terrible idea. The storage is unheatedand so I really hesitate to go do anything there midwinter.

I’d move the stuff, it’d get cold, and I’d never go work on it. That is NOT a solution. Instead, I pulled some books out, sold them wholesale to the bookstore up the street, and took some others straight to the dump’s swap shap. I also brought 2 boxes home, but that effort has to continue until I’m done, no matter what.

One more glitch, I still need to finish the 2010 taxes, and my tax person called today, she’s back from her vacation, and that means I need to GEAR UP and GO get her the 4-7 numbers she needs to finish up. The big one is what I plan to do tomorrow, before I go to work in the afternoon.

MalagaCoveThe rest of my life is on "hold" until this is done...

and frankly, right now I despair of this ever being completed, no matter how many things I get rid of, or how fast.

Blah!

MC 20 months ago

MalagaCoveThe editing of "stuff" continues

on and on. I hope to God that this is something that is completed say in the next year or so?

MC 21 months ago

MalagaCoveI did this for most of the day.

I’m tired, but it feels good to be actively working on this by DOING something I can see, instead of whittling away at the

endless

sea of books and stuff!

MalagaCoveThis week, I have

recleared the table (it’s covered again, this time on purpose…long story I will NOT tell!) recleared the laundry room, cleared the entry to the attic, worked IN the attic, cleared the new graphics table (and then pretty immediately covered it with…books…of course!

Also delivered the last 2 boxes of the first wholesale deal, and started on the 1st box of the next one. I have commitments from people to take 6 paperback bookcases, the metal library shelving, two of the drawer platforms, some of the better clothing on consignment, etc., etc., etc. In other words I have been BUSY!!!

Don’t know if this is all unsullied goodness or not, there’s a part of me that’s just waiting for the big hammer in the sky to crash down on my head/impending doom! I’m just ignoring it and working on (whatever) instead.

We’ll see!

MalagaCoveThings continue to be worked on...

DH attached the sides of the new veggie garden bed today, we put in the new/longer garden stake on the bean trellis and then I finally painted it.

With the last dead car gone, I have a bunch of plants to move/take out, a wood pile to clean up, another to move. In other words I have a BUNCH of chores to do in the garden.

We’re eating cut/come again baby greens, in fact we had salad for dinner. Still not enough to really feed both of us, it was supplemented with greens that I got at the farmer’s market last week.

DH mowed yesterday and I must say, I like my yard more and more. I could (and do) just go out there and stare at this verdant green place with color and my usual quirky additions: multi-colored tomato cages, the trellis, the paperback cages supporting the pea trellis, the wood chip paths, etc. I like my yard. . . and if that makes me vain? Well, that’s okay by me. You’re entitled to like your yard; I’ll like mine!

Oh, and another Momma Robin has nested on the ledge over our back door. At first she was determined to nest on TOP of the light next to the front door. The light goes on automatically every night, I don’t think that would be good for the eggs! Then she was determined to nest over the back door, so we finally left the nest up. Best guess is that she’s brooding her eggs now. I love robins, they eat bugs, sing beautifully, and are cheery to see in the garden, but they are STUBBORN creatures and not all that bright. As we keep having issues with robins wanting to nest on the house, I decided that for next year, we’re building a robin ledge onto the woodshed!

MalagaCoveI started to write this today, and got distracted...

DH today (while I was at my chicken class) took a “temporary” part of the house and made it permanent. This ALWAYS makes me happy, it’s as if we’re staying here, it’s ours, instead of it being temporary. (Been temporary for the past 23 years….)

The apple ladder that holds the pots/pans is now nailed to the beam it’s under, instead of being held in “temporarily” by a clamp. It’s crooked, the ladder was warped, so there’s no way to keep it straight up/down and square, to make the surface flat/parallel to the end of the counter it had to be put in at an angle, and it was.

Yay DH!

One more step….

MC 23 months ago

MalagaCoveI was emailing a friend/writer the other day

and said something like, “Writing, esp. fiction writing, is much like the process of dealing with the emotional stuff I’ve been doing for the past few years. That is, it’s bludgeoning myself to produce something different that what came out the first time, etc. and frankly I have very little interest in being a writer, esp. a fiction writer now as a result.

I want to get the projects in mid-process complete, but most of my efforts have been dedicated to the house into a home project, as for me this is the next vital step. DH needs a clean house, and I need to allow myself a clean house too. I’ll deal with the panic in due time, but it’s a small price to pay.

And so, the goal!
