I would like to rent a place near the beach and teach English for free and learn to speak spanish and cook traditional food along the way
How to live in Costa Rica
How I did it: I only lived in Costa Rica for 2 months a couple of summers ago, but I loved every second of it! I did volunteer work in a day care and nursing home for a month in Cartago, rode my bike down the black sand beaches of Playa Viejo, got lost in the streets of San Jose, went repelling down waterfalls and saw lava coming out of a volcano in Arenal, got crazy with locals and tourists, scuba dived, and zipped lined through the canopies of Manuel Antonio!

I lived in Costa Rica for 2 years back in the late 80s but haven’t gone back since. I mostly lived in San Jose and the surrounding suburbs. The people were friendly and helpful. I really liked the weather and had many fond memories of the place.
In Nicaragua, I met up with a man from an Ad Agency in San Jose, Tribu Advertising? It looks great and I am going to take a visit, anyone know more about the company or its surroundings? It’s Web site is www.tribu.co.cr.
hanikac is crazy.
I lived in CR for 7 years: starting when I was 9, ending when I was 16. I learned Spanish, lived in the city and then in the rainforest and then the city again, and loved it all. I miss all the little roasted chicken places (yummm) and the granizados (shaved ice with syrup, condensed milk, and powdered milk… yummm again), and taxi rides and farmer’s markets… oh, and big orange papayas, and jocotes, pejibayes, guayabas, chiverres… and of course the rainforest birds: bobos (or in english, mott-motts), those yellow-breasted birds… Anyway, there’s a whole lot that I miss and love about Costa Rica. Oh, and the malls! A lot more entertaining and prettier than here… heh anyway, some not-so-great things are that the cities can be pretty dirty, noisy, crowded, and some people like to rip off tourists, like anywhere pretty much… But one last great thing: the beaches, of course. Warm water.
I was reading through all your comments and I welcome any feedback at all about the country, how to find a place to live, awesome places to go, etc. I finishing up my undergrad right now in Fl. I’m moving down to Costa in June and super excited. Any advice at all would be swwweeeeet :) Thanks!

Heyy… I’m a senior in high school and next year i’m going to be studying at Long Island University’s Global College. I will be studying in Costa Rica all next year (8 months!!) and i’m reviewing everyones feedback of their experience.
I’m really excited but i’m kind of nervous about the hazards; botflys, killer bees, snakes, etc. i will be in the forest a lot. Does anyone have any experiences with the negatives of Costa Rica? or is it rare that it happens?
Thanks so much!
I went there for two weeks. There’s so mucho to see and do. When I retire, I want to come here to live.
I lived in Costa Rica during the summer of 2004 while I was in college. I stayed with a Tico family in Alajuela. I lived the Tico way of life and traveled all around the country. I fell in love with the country and the people. It is a beautiful country and wonderful way of life and I would be honored to be able to live there again. Hopefully I will be able to retire there but with the cost of living going up we will see what the future holds!
