After driving an hour for an interview with a creative staffing agency (and 2 hours back in traffic), being giving this patronizing hour-long InDesign test, being insulted & told I failed it (even though I work 90% of the time in InDesign….I design & layout entire publications), and then telling off the recruiter in an emotional meltdown, I went home and checked my business bank account…
I discovered my soon-to-be-ex business partner had drained the account of all the money, leaving me 0% of my share. To top it off, I still have to return the credit machine & close the account, meaning I will be stuck with the fees for that. I can’t believe what a lying, cheating thief this person turned out to be. I’m far too naive and trusting.
I’m also far too optimistic…I should have known that interview would be a disaster. These things never go my way.
I just want to go to sleep and wake up in 2 months and have it all over, & hopefully things will be better. In the meantime, I have to take some action against this selfish, immoral person who is no doubt going to continue to be vindictive and greedy as we dissolve the partnership.

It is failing
It has so much potential, but I can’t keep it up any longer or I will sink too deep into debt. Not to mention that my biz partner & I are seeing eye to eye less & less, and I feel disrespected by her implication that her input is more valuable than mine & that she should get larger slice of the pie than me. It’s not fair & it’s not in the contract. It’s just not worth the struggle…

I have wanted to start a business all my life. I have done this over a year ago. at this stage in the business I do not know if it will be a success or not. I need to learn the skills to absolutely optimise it’s chances of success.

Excellent. The funding has been agreed in principle, heads of terms agreed and now its only days until we have to sign the contract. Then – and only then – I’ll break open a bottle of champagne.

Waiting for lawyers to approve funding is like being put on a rack.

So my business is about to get funding… I have been waiting for nearly 2 weeks for the lawyers to cross the t’s and dot the i’s. Every day I’m expecting the call to confirm it’s a goer. I’m crawling the walls with anticipation…..

~ John Lee ~ setting my sights lower so I can set them higher
I’m marking this as done for two reasons :
1) no one else with this goal seems to be posting anything so I am not learning anything or offering anything new
2) my company has an operational profit – running the numbers this way and that way and it just seems to get better no matter how I look at them
I hope to find another business goal whereby I have more of an exchange of ideas.
One of the things I find amusing about 43Things is that the compost people share all sorts of how to info (and ask a lot of questions); I would think that people starting/owning businesses would be similar – maybe that’s why the guys who put on the very expensive 4 hour business seminars make so much money – they know that many small business people don’t share info. :(

~ John Lee ~ setting my sights lower so I can set them higher
There are 17 people with this goal and I am the only one posting in the last two months.
