The weather is good enough to make some more progress. I undercoated some of the cottage style windows – tricky & time-consuming though.

We completed painting the lower level today. Just the top level & windows to paint now.
I have to work out how to wash & paint the top floor. Cherry picker? Scaffolding? Ladder?

My son & I made some more progress, preparing the house. Some weatherboards were pretty bad too.

We are sanding & preparing the house. This is actually quite theraputic with the sanding & painting.
My son is helping which makes it fun too. Last time he helped me paint the house was about 13 years ago (when he was 2) & he tried to fix the window with a hammer!

I’m totally not motivated to do this, but we have a public holiday on Wednesday (Waitangi Day) so I have some sandpaper, putty, builders bog & undercoat to fix up some rough areas.
We’ve worked on this a bit more but decided to table it and finish in the spring. This turned out to be so much bigger a job than I ever anticipated. And the main work is done. I’d really wanted to finish the trim before winter hit but just ran out of time and warmth…soooo in the spring, we will finish the trim, paint the front door, paint the porch floor, paint the contrasting edge at the top of each window, and paint the foundation blocks.
Despite the fact that it isn’t completely done, the house looks SO much better now than before I started.
Did some more of the trim this weekend, but still have a ways to go before it is all done…
The painting party was a great success! We got the remainder of the main color and some of the trim and accent colors done that day. Since then, have essentially finished the accent color, more of the trim, and started on the contrast trim at the top of the windows. Cannot wait to finish…
Did more last weekend, and trying to organize a painting party for this weekend to get a big chunk of it done. I SO can’t wait to have this behind me!
